Ethan's pov.
"Selena has returned, and so?" I asked, trying to calm myself down as Piper's questions only irritated me the more. I unbuttoned my shirt and started dressing up so I could meet up with office work that day.
"I was wondering if you've heard from or been in contact with her?"
I paused and turned to her. The first thought that came to mind was if she was suspecting anything or if she was just asking. " Why would you even ask that? Even after what I told you about her? ... Piper, I don't think I have time for this, as you can see I need to get to the office."
" I just wanted to be sure that's all."
"Okay..fine. No, I haven't heard from her. Happy now?" I flashed my eyes at her before ei continued ransacking the wardrobe.
"Won't you rest a bit, since you just returned from the office?" She asked like she noticed anything fishy.
"No," I responded blatantly.
"You've been working all night. I think maybe you should get some rest --"
" Piper please!" I sparked.
She flinched at the sound of my voice.
"Can you just stop taking? Go do something else... Get something to do to keep yourself busy, instead of sitting here and asking questions like we're in some interview." I sighed and turned around.
" Is... Is everything okay with you? Did something happen?"
" Oh my gosh! Piper!" I yelled as I slowly turned to face her. " You see, this is why sometimes I don't even come home at all. This is all you do. There's always something... It's either this or that... You always have one question or the other for me... You need to understand that I'm too busy to deal with your shenanigans."
I grabbed my suit and then my suitcase and then matched downstairs. She followed me behind, wearing a long face but I didn't even want to attend to that. This was the height of it. I think it's time I tell her. It's time I tell her the real truth. It's time this marriage came to an end...
"Ethan..." She started as she got in my way, holding me back from exiting the mansion. I impatiently stole a glance at my wrist watch and then at her. "What do you have to say now, huh?"
"Did something happen at the office yesterday? Or are you stressed? I haven't seen you like this in quite a while. Did something happen?"
" Did something happen? You're seriously asking if something happened? You're not getting the message. Piper, it's not not clocking to you? You're the problem. Can't you see? I'm trying to get to work but you're here. You're asking me this dumbass question... Do you really think everyone is as jobless as you are?"
"Eth--"
"Get out of my way, please. I don't have time for this drama." I spat angrily. I could no longer hold it in. I was willing to, but Piper was literally begging for this side of me. She slowly moved away as I stormed out of the mansion angrily leaving her to wonder why that was about.
I drove away, and by the time I got to the office, my secretary followed me behind. "Good morning, sir. I have forwarded your itinerary to your email. The meeting, which was postponed yesterday, has been shifted to later today, and you have a lot of paperwork to put your signature on."
"Is that all?" I grumbled as I got comfortable in my seat.
"No, sir. These are just the basic ones. The rest are there in your email."
" I may not be able to attend the meeting, so you'll put on hold... It may not hold. I have a very important appointment today..."
"Sir, is it something I should add to your itinerary?"
" No, it's not. Just do what I've asked you to do. Later on, you send the papers here. I'll have a look at them and see what I need to put my signature on." I said, stroking my chin with the thought of last night with Selena playing in my head.
"Yes sir." My secretary excuses herself. I sat up straight, grabbed my phone, and placed a call to Selena.
"Hello? How are you?"
"I'm well, How's it going at the office?" She asked.
" It's going well so far. I was wondering if you'd be busy today ?" I asked with hopes that J would spend some time with her to get away from Piper for the night at least.
"Let me guess, you had an argument with Piper didn't you?" She asked.
" Wh... What? What do you mean?"
"What I mean is, I know you guys had some kind of misunderstanding. Isn't that like the only reason why you would call to meet up with me? I know you too well, Ethan. I've already told you to just let that woman go. Yet you keep making things difficult for both of us"
" What's with the attitude Selena?"
"Look, I don't want to be entangled with your marriage drama. I don't care about how you plan to get rid of her but do it fast. Till then, I cannot be involved with you. It's either me or her, Ethan."
"So you're not coming to see me today?"
" No, I'm not! Let that sink in, Ethan." Selena then hung up on me without letting me speak further.
This was definitely the last straw, Piper needs to go!
