CHAPTER 4. Coming Back

1205 Words
10 YEARS LATER… "Good afternoon ma." My assistant greeted lowly entering into my spacious office which was dimly lighted just how I preferred it. "Here are the reports from the last book you published." She handed me a file and I collected it and scrolled through it. "In just a week, about ten thousand copies were sold out. Now after 2 months of publishing, we had to print more copies as they had all been sold out." I could hear the excitement in her voice which made me smile as well. "Wow." I had become one of the best selling authors in this country and growing through the whole world at large. Every time I published a book, it was like the entire world wanted to see what I could do through my pen and that, there, made me proud. I have come soooo far. "The turn up yesterday at the meet and greet was also wonderful ma'am, I didn't believe you would still come to work today. Your fans at Ked are also pleading for yet another." She continued, referring to a state about 4 hours drive from here. "I appreciate this Dia. Thank you, I will consider the meet and greet and let you know." I told her and she grinned. "Alright ma. Congratulations once again Ms Mia." She congratulated then excused herself. Ms Mia…Ms Mia Anderson. My new name which seemed to fit so well after 10 years ran through my ears. I let out a breath going through some work I had to do. The sound of my phone ringing loudly broke my attention from the documents I was studying. "Hell–" "Heyyyyyyy sis." I was cut off by a very excited Casey who dragged out the 'Hey.' "What's up?" I asked, hearing the exhaustion in my voice. "Mia, you need to rest and take a break. I know for sure you're in that depressing dark ass office." "My office is for sure not depressing. Besides, I have things to complete." "Blah, blah…you work too hard." I could tell she rolled her eyes in a full circle. I mean I would know being stuck with her dramatic self for more than 10 years. We had met a few months after I landed here. She was my first friend who had become a sister over the years. She always looked out for me and supported me in everything I did. A person on the outside who saw us would think we're a lez couple which wasn't so. "How did last night go?" I changed the topic and she scoffed. "Horrible. I feel so embarrassed thinking about it." She answered. I placed my phone on loud speaker and dropped it next to the documents next to me. "What happened?" I flipped through a new case I had just received. "So this man I went out with happened to be married." I gasped hearing that. "Yeah and his wife happened to have found out about us being there. She popped up and embarrassed her husband by calling him all types of names. She poured the glass of wine he had ordered for us on him, she poured food on her husband..Girlll…it was just extremely messy. Thank the heavens, she didn't come at me. If not, I'm not even lying or trying to pretend to be a bad b***h but I would beat her and her husband's disgraceful ass." She explained and I was left there shocked. Shocked because of two things; This man being married and this case which I was working on…. "Did you hear me?" Her voice broke out my thoughts. "Yeah, yeah, I heard you. Thank goodness you found out he was married earlier than last time." "For real, I don't know why I just keep attracting married men, they just disgust me…Anyways, I know you're busy so we will see later when you come to see my babies." She said and I rolled my eyes at that. "Sureeeee.." "Bye sis." She hung up before I could reply. She was taking this so well which surprised me, I just hope she wasn't trying to suppress her hurt because coming from me, I learned that didn't bring out any progress. Casey had been with a married man for about a year and had no idea. He had given her all the lies on earth such as she was the only one for him, or he would marry her. And believe me, when I say this man was so good to her that it crushed her finding out he was married with three good healthy kids. I sighed deeply thinking back to it. Men! Men!! Men!!! My phone rang and I picked it up almost immediately. "Ma'am, did you get the document on the new case I sent to you?" Tyler's voice rang through my phone. "Yeah." "It will need your presence for a few weeks at Ryle." He said and I nodded slowly. Maybe it was time to return back to the country I despised. Which only brought me pain and hardship….Ryle. ************ Later That Night… "Mummy!" My kids ran towards me as soon as I stepped into my house. It was a 4 bedroom shortlet, three bedrooms upstairs and one on the ground floor. "My babies." I grinned widely looking at my two treasures. Okay, I take back what I said on Ryle bringing me nothing but pain and hardship. That Night with that monster, brought my two greatest joy. They meant the world to me, my twins, Andre and Annabella. "How are you? Hope you didn't stress your aunt Casey?" I asked and they both shrugged. "Aunt Casey stressed me." Andre whispered in my ears loudly as if wanting Casey to hear. "Ahah? Aiit Andre bet." He laughed going to hug her while Annabella just smiled hugging me. Casey had said she was literally my spitting image which was slightly true. The two had my looks but they had some features such as the colors of the eyes, length of their hair which I assumed they got from their…sperm donor…that monster. "Y'all go and wash up. Food is ready." Casey said to them and they sprinted out of the sitting room. "Stop running." I cautioned taking off my heels. "Do you need a massage?" Casey asked and I looked at her through the corner of eye. "Girl, bye." We both burst out laughing. "How was work though?" She asked, taking a seat across from me. I sighed deeply and ran my hand through my hair. "That bad?" She looked genuinely worried. "I'm going back there for a case….I have to go back there." My heart rate picked up thinking back to the day my innocence was taken away from me, how horribly the Madison family had treated me and how lonely I felt finding out I was pregnant. "Where? Don't tell me—-" "Yeah, I have to go to Ryle." Her eyes went wide and I sighed. Maybe this was the universe's way of telling me…It was time to get vengeance on that man. And I had that power to bring him down! No matter who he was, I was going to find him and make him pay.
