Without thinking, I move to him again, taking his hand. This time, I don’t hesitate. I reach deeper, pulling harder.
Something resists, then shifts. A sharp, searing pain shoots up my arm. I gasp.
“Yes,” Lucy says quickly. “That’s it….you can do this!”
I pull again and my vision blurs, the room turning upside down in my head like I'm being dehydrated.
“It’s not working…” I choke.
“Try again!” Lucy urges.
I do. Something inside Kael stirs. His veins darken, shifting under his skin. A violent force pushes back against me, pain exploding through my head, blood dripping from my nose.
