Chapter 8:A warning

504 Words
Emilia couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that lingered long after Sophia's visit. She had always trusted her instincts, and something about Sophia's words had struck a chord. As the days went by, Emilia found herself avoiding Liam. She didn't answer his calls, and she made sure to steer clear of him whenever she saw him around town. But Liam was not one to give up easily. He started showing up at the bookstore, lingering around the shelves and making small talk with the customers. Emilia tried to ignore him, but she could feel his eyes on her, watching her every move. One day, as she was closing up the store, Emilia saw Liam walking towards her. She felt a surge of anxiety and quickly locked the door, hoping to avoid him. But Liam was not deterred. He knocked on the door, his voice low and persuasive. "Emilia, please talk to me. I need to explain something." Emilia hesitated for a moment before opening the door. Liam's eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. "What do you want, Liam?" Emilia asked finally, her voice firm. Liam took a deep breath. "I want to tell you the truth about Sophia. She's not what she seems, Emilia. She's been threatening me, telling me to stay away from you." Emilia's eyes narrowed. "Why would she do that?" Liam's expression turned grim. "Because she's still in love with me, Emilia. And she'll stop at nothing to keep us apart." Emilia felt a shiver run down her spine. She had never seen Liam look so serious, so scared. But as she looked into his eyes, she saw something there that made her hesitate. It was a flicker of uncertainty, a glimmer of doubt. "Liam, I need you to stay away from me," Emilia said finally, her voice firm. "I don't know what's going on between you and Sophia, but I don't want to be a part of it." Liam's face fell, and for a moment, Emilia felt a pang of guilt. But as she looked at him, she knew she had made the right decision. "Please, Emilia," Liam said, his voice low and urgent. "Don't do this. We can work through this together." Emilia shook her head. "I'm sorry, Liam. But I need you to stay away from me." As Liam turned and walked away, Emilia felt a sense of relief wash over her. She had done the right thing, she told herself. But as she watched Liam disappear into the distance, Emilia couldn't shake off the feeling that she had just made a terrible mistake. Meanwhile, Sophia watched the whole scene unfold from across the street, a satisfied smile spreading across her face. "You're making this too easy for me, Emilia," she muttered to herself. "You have no idea what's coming." As Sophia turned and walked away, Emilia felt a shiver run down her spine. She had a feeling that she was in grave danger, and she didn't know why.
