Emilia's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she asked Liam about her great-aunt. "What was she like?" she repeated, leaning against the counter of the bookstore.
Liam's face lit up with a warm smile. "She was an incredible woman," he began. "I met her through my family's sailing business. She would often come to our dock, and we'd chat about books and life."
Emilia's heart swelled with nostalgia. She had heard so many stories about her great-aunt's love of books and people.
"One time, I remember, she recommended this old sailing novel to me," Liam continued. "I was skeptical at first, but she assured me it was a classic. And she was right, of course."
Emilia laughed. "That sounds just like her."
As they chatted, Emilia found herself feeling more and more at ease around Liam. She loved hearing about her great-aunt through his eyes, and she was touched by the obvious affection he had for her.
Before she knew it, the sun had begun to set, casting a warm orange glow over the bookstore. Liam glanced at his watch and stood up, towering over Emilia.
"I'm so sorry, but I've taken up enough of your time," he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "It was great talking to you, Emilia."
Emilia smiled, feeling a pang of disappointment that their conversation was ending. "It was wonderful talking to you too, Liam."
As Liam turned to leave, Emilia called out, "Hey, Liam?"
He turned back, his eyebrows raised in question.
"Do you think... maybe we could grab coffee sometime?" Emilia asked, her heart skipping a beat.
Liam's face broke into a wide smile. "I'd love to," he said, his eyes sparkling with warmth.
As Emilia watched Liam walk out of the bookstore, she couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and possibility. Maybe, just maybe, this chance encounter would lead to something tangible.
