Episode 1 - The First Sight
The early morning breeze whispered through the trees, the sun rising slowly over the hills, casting a golden glow across the small rural village where Tauheed lived. His simple home, nestled at the edge of the town, was a reflection of his life—humble, peaceful, and without unnecessary adornment.
Tauheed, a quiet and kind-hearted young man, was already at his desk, working on a freelance project for a software company miles away. His fingers moved swiftly across the keyboard, writing lines of code, while his mind wandered to the calmness of the day ahead.Tauheed was always drawn to simplicity, in his work and in his life. Despite the world of software development being fast-paced and constantly evolving, he remained rooted in his humble nature. He was the kind of person who always wore full-sleeved shirts, even on the hottest of days, not out of modesty alone, but because it was just who he was—gentle, reserved, and content with his quiet existence. His best friend, Vikas, was quite the opposite. Outgoing, vibrant, and always with a joke on his lips, Vikas worked as a software engineer in the city. Yet, despite their differences, the bond between them was strong, forged through years of friendship. Vikas was the lighthearted balance to Tauheed's seriousness, and Tauheed was the grounding force that kept Vikas's exuberance in check. That Sunday, Vikas had insisted they take a break from their routine and visit the park.
"Come on, Tauheed, you’ve been staring at that screen all week! You need some fresh air, man,"
Vikas had said, pulling him away from his desk. Reluctantly, Tauheed agreed, knowing that his friend wouldn’t take no for an answer.
As they strolled through the park, the atmosphere was alive with the sounds of birds chirping and children laughing. Families sat on blankets, couples walked hand-in-hand, and for once, Tauheed felt a sense of ease away from his work. He walked quietly beside Vikas, who chatted about their next project, but his attention was soon drawn elsewhere.Ahead of them, on a grassy patch near the trees, a girl was playing with a small puppy. She was laughing as the little dog jumped up and down, its tiny paws bouncing off the ground. Her smile was radiant, full of warmth and life.
Something about her—her laughter, her grace, the effortless way she moved—caught Tauheed’s eye, and for a moment, he felt his heart skip.Vikas noticed the sudden change in his friend’s demeanor.
"What’s up, Tauheed? You’re zoning out,"
he teased, nudging him.But Tauheed didn’t respond. His eyes were locked on the girl. There was something ethereal about her, as though she were too perfect for this world. She seemed almost like an angel, her long hair flowing gently in the breeze, her eyes sparkling with joy as she played with the puppy.
Tauheed had never seen anyone like her before.
"Who’s she?"
Tauheed murmured, more to himself than to Vikas.Vikas followed his gaze and grinned.
"Looks like someone’s smitten! Go talk to her, man."
Tauheed shook his head, embarrassed.
"No, no, I can’t do that."
"Why not? She’s just a girl, Tauheed. What’s the worst that can happen?"
Vikas encouraged, always the one to push Tauheed out of his comfort zone. But Tauheed couldn’t bring himself to approach her. He wasn’t like Vikas, who could charm anyone with a few words. He was quiet, reserved, and he feared that the moment he tried to speak, he’d make a fool of himself. Still, he couldn’t take his eyes off her.As if sensing his gaze, the girl looked up, locking eyes with Tauheed. For a brief second, the world seemed to stand still. There was a flicker of recognition in her smile, as though she had been waiting for him all along. She waved lightly before turning her attention back to the puppy, leaving Tauheed standing there, breathless.Vikas laughed, slapping him on the back.
"Well, looks like you’ve got a chance. Better make a move before someone else does."
But Tauheed could only smile, his heart racing. He didn’t know her name yet, but in that moment, he knew that she was someone special. And though he wasn’t the type to believe in love at first sight, something about her made him feel like maybe, just maybe, this was the beginning of something that would change his life forever. Her name, as they would later find out, was Muskan—a fitting name, for her smile seemed to hold the world in its light.
Tauheed couldn’t shake the image of Muskan from his mind. After that brief moment of eye contact, something had shifted inside him. It was as if her smile had unlocked a part of his heart he didn’t know existed. As he and Vikas continued their walk, Tauheed’s thoughts wandered back to her—the way her laughter had filled the air, how natural and carefree she seemed, playing with that puppy as if nothing else mattered.
Vikas, noticing Tauheed’s silence, chuckled.
“You’re gone, man. I can see it in your eyes. Never thought I’d see the day when Mr. Reserved here would be struck by love at first sight.”
Tauheed smiled, embarrassed. “It’s not that… I just—there’s something about her, Vikas. I’ve never felt like this before.”
“And that’s exactly why you should go talk to her,”
Vikas said, nudging him forward.
“Trust me, what’s the worst that could happen? She says no? Big deal! At least you’ll know.”
Tauheed wasn’t sure if he could muster the courage, but something inside him stirred. Maybe it was Vikas’s words, or perhaps it was that fleeting moment when Muskan had smiled at him, but he felt a pull, a quiet urge to know more about her.
They circled back toward where she had been playing with the puppy. The grassy patch was still there, bathed in the afternoon sunlight, but Muskan was no longer alone. Sitting beside her now was an older woman, likely her mother, watching her with a soft smile. Muskan continued to play with the puppy, completely immersed in the moment, her laughter ringing out like music.
Tauheed’s heart raced as they drew closer. He could feel his palms start to sweat, his mind racing with thoughts of what to say. What if she didn’t like him? What if she thought he was weird for approaching her? All these doubts swirled in his mind, but Vikas, always the bold one, took the lead.
“Hey there!” Vikas called out as they neared the spot. Muskan looked up, slightly startled but quickly smiling in response.
“Hi!”
she replied, her eyes glinting with curiosity as she glanced between Tauheed and Vikas.
“This is my friend Tauheed,”
Vikas said, gesturing toward him.
“We couldn’t help but notice you having a great time with that little guy.”
Muskan’s smile widened as she scooped the puppy into her arms.
“Oh, him? Yeah, he’s my little buddy. His name is Bruno. He’s a handful, but I love him.”
Tauheed managed a smile, but his voice caught in his throat. Vikas, sensing his friend’s nerves, kept the conversation flowing.
“He’s adorable! I’m Vikas, by the way. We were just out enjoying the day, and well… my friend here couldn’t help but be intrigued by how much fun you were having with Bruno.”
Muskan laughed softly, her eyes drifting to Tauheed again.
“Oh, really? Well, I guess Bruno and I do make a good team.”
Tauheed, finally finding his voice, spoke up, though his words were quiet.
“He seems really happy with you.”
It wasn’t much, but it was enough to break the ice. Muskan’s smile grew even warmer, and she shifted her attention to Tauheed.
“He’s a bit of a troublemaker, but I don’t mind. Dogs are loyal, and once you have their trust, they’ll love you forever.”
There was something in her words that resonated with Tauheed, and for the first time, he felt a little more at ease. They continued to chat, mostly Vikas and Muskan exchanging playful remarks, but Tauheed chimed in here and there. Every time Muskan laughed or spoke, he found himself drawn deeper into her presence. She was different from anyone he had ever met—there was a lightness to her, a joy that seemed to fill the space around her, and it captivated him.
After a while, Muskan glanced at her watch and sighed.
“I should probably get going. My mom’s been waiting for me, and I don’t want to keep her too long.”
Tauheed felt a pang of disappointment, but before she could leave, Vikas jumped in.
“Wait, we didn’t even get your name!”
Muskan smiled, holding Bruno close as she stood up.
“It’s Muskan.”
“Fitting name for someone who smiles as much as you,” Vikas teased, earning a laugh from her.
Tauheed, still feeling the weight of the moment, finally spoke up again.
“It was really nice meeting you, Muskan.”
Muskan’s gaze softened as she looked at him, and for a moment, it was as if there were only the two of them in that park.
“You too, Tauheed. Maybe I’ll see you around sometime?”
With that, she turned and walked away, her laughter still lingering in the air as she disappeared down the path with her mother and Bruno in tow.
Tauheed stood there, staring after her, lost in thought. Vikas clapped him on the back, breaking his reverie.
“Well, that went better than expected, huh?”
“I don’t even know what to think,”
Tauheed murmured, his mind still replaying every moment they had just shared.
“She’s… incredible.”
Vikas grinned.
“She’s definitely something, and if I know you, you’re already thinking about how to see her again.”
Tauheed smiled softly, his heart still racing.
“Maybe.”
But deep down, he knew. This wasn’t just a chance encounter. There was something about Muskan that had awakened a feeling inside him he couldn’t ignore. Something told him that this was only the beginning.
