Eva ran until her lungs felt as though they would burst. The occasional glance over her shoulder showed Brian in pursuit, albeit hampered by his injured leg. He was fitter than she was and had retained much of the athletic prowess from his youth. Fortunately for Eva, the hotel was not far away, not more than a few hundred yards. The mad dash and ominous pursuit made it feel like several miles. Eva hurtled into the lobby to be met by the concierge, with whom she nearly collided. He smiled, catching her as she was about to collapse. “Whoa there, miss.
