Eva fought the impulse to retch. The hole was high enough for a man to walk through. A tall man. It was bricked and faded blue paint covered the sides. This had been in place for a very long time. Trying to ignore the stench, Eva entered. Every fiber of her being screamed caution, but her natural curiosity won the battle. A hallway of not more than a dozen steps led to a room lit with candles at the end. Eva tried to picture where in the hospital this hidden passageway might show up, but there was nothing obvious.
