Right at that moment Sam walked on my left side and whispered “I’ve never seen anyone stand up to her, do you know what you are doing?” “I do, remember the nickname I told you my sister called me?” “oh yea… oh Jaz and Sky are your sisters?” “Yup I know her tactics very well. She’ll keep you out of it and blame it on El, Lil, and me.” I said while trying to figure out how to save my friends from getting into trouble. “The guys and I will back you up. I hope you know that. Plus Mr Steve will never argue with me.” “No matter what I am keeping El and Lil out of trouble. I will take the heat if need be, I am grateful that you have our back. It seems Jaz is collecting as much pity as possible… Sam? How much sway do Jaz and you have with the principal?” “she’s a cheerleader. He has a bias for them, but I have sway too. It depends on his mood if I have more or less then your sister.” “ok I’ll be prepared for my last play to be the key then.” “what’s your last play?” El asked on my other side. I smiled. “I’ve always had a way with people. And I know how to reason with them. Here’s the plan: Sam can you stay beside me and Lil go beside Alex , El beside John, and the boys go on the outside. El and Lil you will stand kinda behind me but make sure you aren’t hiding. We did nothing wrong so don’t look like you did. I’ll do most of the talking. If it works like I hope Sam you won’t need to say or do anything. If I am floundering, save us please. I’ll try to keep all of you out of trouble. No matter what it takes, I promise. By this time we were in front of the office.

“Hello Girls,” the kind lady said from behind the desk to the cheerleaders. They completely ignored her and walked straight to the door that was to the right of her desk. When she stopped watching the girls walk into the room and turned back to the door, she looked right at me, then Sam, then everyone with me, and back to Sam, then ended on me again. “Hello darling, I see you made friends and that trouble was caused. I wish you all luck with them.” she winked and smiled then went back to work “thank you Ma’am, I appreciate the luck.” I answered before heading to the room the cheerleaders went to. “She was rude and my cheer-girls will agree. Then in class she kicked a chair at me and was rude again.” Jaz was whining to the principal. El inhaled quickly and I moved my hand and found hers and squeezed. “Are you hurt Jaz?” “thankfully no we are going to do great at practice. You should come and watch.” she said with a winning smile. “Okay you girls go get ready for World history and I will talk to the group.” he said kindly. “Thank you so much Mr Steve.” Jaz said as she shimmed out of the room with her girls following her and glaring at us. “Okay so who do we have here?” the principal said in a flat voice to us, not even looking up. “Hello Sir, I am Elizabeth Mae, and with me are Elaine Parlent, Lilly Jones, Johnathan Endon, Alexander Avans, and Samuel Valentine.” at Sam’s name his head jerked up. He looked straight at me then looked to my left and saw Sam, his eyes widened then he looked at the others. “Well boys you were never mentioned so why did you come?” Mr Steve asked. “We watched everything that happened and wanted the correct story to be told.” Sam said smoothly. Mr Steve flinched ‘Polite and honest is always the way I thought to myself. “Well I will hear what has to be said there is no need for you boys to miss your first world history class so you are dismissed.” Sam looked at me out of the corner of his eye and frowned, I just smiled and nodded, hoping he’d know that it will be fine. “Of course Sir.” he turned to me and said “I’ll see you in class Em.” He smiled and left with John and Alex following El and Lil moved closer to me. I couldn’t stop smiling from the nickname Sam came up with and that he used at the perfect time. “So I want to hear what you have to say. Cheerleader Jazmine said you started picking on her in the hall before class and near the end kicked a chair at her. Then bullied her and her sister.” Mr Steve looked up at me after noting how nervous El and Lil were. “Sir, I do apologize for all of this. My sisters and their friends were bothering Elaine and Lilly when I was trying to find my locker. I stepped in because I did not find what was being said to be kind.” “Your sisters?” Mr Steve asked. “Yes Sir, Jazmine Kaine and Skylar Kaine are my half sisters. I just started school today.” Mr Steve looked through a file he had. “You are Miss Elizabeth Mae?” he asked, sounding in awe. “Yes Sir, I apologize if you did not hear me introduce myself.” I said surprised by his voice. “No Dear, you did introduce yourself clearly. I am ashamed to admit that I was not paying attention to the names until I heard Mr Valentines.” I smiled “there is no need to be ashamed you deal with this a lot I am guessing. Jazmine does enjoy throwing her power however she can.” “that is very true. You have my full attention Miss Elizabeth Mae.” “please Sir call me Em. and thank you for listening.” I smiled and sat down as Mr Steve nodded. I told him how Jaz made fun of Lil for being short and El’s stutter. I then told him how I stepped in and admitted that I said that they were female dogs on how they were acting. “Wait did you use the b word?” Mr Steve asked after he collected himself from laughing. “I never would use that word but I did insinuate it.” I admitted. He then asked me what I said exactly. “Sir before I tell you, may you allow Elaine and Lilly to go back to class since they never said or did anything. I am the one that should get in trouble if any trouble is given.” “You only defended them so no trouble is given. I just need to know the details. If you believe you can do that then they may go and give apologies to your teacher for their and your absence on my behalf. “Of course Mr Steve,” El said walking towards the door, “thank you Mr Steve ‘' Lil said following. “Thank you Sir.” I said once they left. “There is no reason to thank me. I have been unfair to some students because I got blinded by your sister’s status. Please tell me what you said and everything that happened in the classroom.” so I did as I was asked and told him everything. By the end he was shaking his head and looked very sad. “I can not believe how far she has gone. I know that this is partly on me. Please go to class and I will be getting the other students she has called in here and listen to their story and she will be punished accordingly. Have a lovely day Miss Em.” with that he led me out and had the lady call a student down to the office. When I left the office I saw Sam sitting on a bench. “Are you waiting for me?’’ I asked him with a smile. “Of course Em I figured you would need help finding the class.” I laughed. “To be honest I didn’t even think that far yet.” he laughed too.but Mr Steve stopped me with his hand in front of the door right across my body. “Don’t go yet.” he said kindly. “Your sister always stayed longer than just for a talk. You should do the same.” I was floored. ‘Sam was right. What do I do now? How do I get around this? What does he even want?’ Since I never answered Mr Steve held my body and guided me towards his couch. “ Here why don’t you have a seat? You don’t have to worry about class and you can stay here and have fun. We can even call students to you after if you want.” “ Sir I appreciate your wish to help me reach the students but it would be easier to talk to them away from the office instead of here because they will be more open to talking. Also I was hoping you could act like Jazmine still has your favor so that she doesn’t retaliate against my friends for me turning you against her.” Mr Steve smiled at me. “That is a brilliant idea Miss Em. I will follow your direction for this. And since I must act like she is in my favor you shouldn’t stay here any longer than necessary.” At this he stood and held his hand to help me up. He then walked me to the door and ran his hand down my back. “Please be back soon so I can know what the students say.” I nodded and he opened the door and I walked out. I heard his footsteps behind me but refused to look back.
