a condition

Mason POV I can't believe that my brother of all people would agree with Melissa's absurd plan of confronting the killer who has been terrorising humans. Just thinking about it makes me hate humans even more. If they weren't so weak, would my mate have to worry about them? I don't see any reason Why she should be concerned about them. She is a werewolf and not a human so why in the name of the Goddess would she want to concern herself with human matters. It would be better if she was doing everything to avenge her adoptive parents murder but that's not it. She wants to protect the weak race that can't even protect itself from a single criminal. What I can't believe is Theo agreeing to support her. That's just unbelievable and I won't allow it. I have waited for so long for my mate to allow her to endanger her life like that. " Mason, wait up!" I hear Theo's voice calling from behind but I really don't want to listen to him. " Let's talk about this." " What's there to talk about Theo? You do know that even putting everything aside, the council will never allow one of our kind to meddle with human matters. She's not part of them anymore." I could not hold in my anger and I ended up yelling at Theo. " I f*****g don't care about what the council has to say. They are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites who pretend to care about the welfare of others but what did they do when our mother begged for their help? They chose to support one of their own. Thanks to them,we don't have a mother!" Theo's words Ignited a flame of hatred and resentment in my heart. I hate the council as much as Theo does but my pack is still under them. I have to abide by the rules as the Alpha to ensure that the pack is protected. " I would not be surprised if those so-called righteous council elders have something to do with this whole setup. I might have secluded myself from everything but that does not mean I am stupid. Someone is backing whoever is committing that crime and that person knows about the existence of werewolves. He must be powerful too, otherwise, he wouldn't be roaming the streets freely." Theo added and for a minute,I did not doubt his words. The council is full of self righteous foxes who are in real sense greedy for power. " Theo, you understand that this isn't about Melissa only. Allowing her to meddle in this matter is like challenging the council and our people will be the ones to suffer. If it's true that the council is involved in this matter, having Melissa stop whatever ideas is the best way to protect her." I say, hoping to reason out with him. I know my mate is a strong woman, she is capable of taking care of herself after all, she wasn't promoted to a top officer for nothing. She worked her way up to that position but with the council being involved, everything gets complicated. " They can try harming her. Before anybody gets their filthy hands on her, I will have shredded their body into a million pieces." Theo's declaration made a shiver run down my spine. I don't doubt that he can go to any length to protect our mate,I can too. But sadly, our ways of showing we care differ from each other. I prefer to settle things peacefully, on the other hand, Theo prefers violence over peace. " We could lose her, Theo. I am scared." I don't want to hide what I feel from my brother. I am scared with countless what ifs racing through my mind. I can't stand seeing our mate unhappy but I can't let her endanger her life. " I am scared too but my fear won't stop me from supporting Melissa. If she wants to find out the culprit and clear her name, I'll hold her hand and walk her through the path. I am willing to do anything for her." My brother says, moving to hug me. " That's mushy coming from you." I joked only to have Theo punch me. " Don't limit her brother. She is our Mate, not a prisoner. Before being our mate, always remember that she is her own person. She has her dreams and can make choices about her life. We should support her because that's what soulmates do. They support each other." Theo says, his voice sounding serious. We might be twins but we have different characters. " I will trust you with this judgement." I might regret my decision later but I am willing to follow Theo's lead. If he thinks agreeing to Melissa is the best decision, I will wholeheartedly support her. Afterall, I don't want to keep arguing with her every time. It drains me everytime we fight over the matter. " Let's head back home. Melissa is worried about you." Theo pats my back and we turn to head back to the cabin. Being away from my mate for a whole day is like torture. All I want is to embrace her in my arms. Her scent calms my nerves. It's like an addictive medicine, one that I can't live without. When we step into the house, my eyes land on Melissa. She sits on the couch rubbing her hands together. I know she must have sensed our presence but unwilling to look me in the eye. I can't blame her though. We have been fighting over the matter and honestly, it's exhausting. " If you want to yell at me…" I did not let her finish her words before I closed the distance between us and claimed her lips. God! I missed this. Her lips felt so good. So sweet and tender, just like ripe grapes. I pulled away to breathe, not getting enough of her sweet lips. " I don't want us to argue anymore Melissa." I said to her, tipping her chin with my fingers. " I will allow you to do this investigation if that's what you want. Don't get me wrong,I still think that this is a bad idea but Theo is right. You are not a prisoner here." I paused, allowing her brain to process my words. " But I have a condition."
