forget it

It's been hours since Mason walked away from our conversation or should I say, argument. It happens everytime I bring the matter about the serial Killing happening in our country. I wonder why Mason does not want to open his eyes and see that everything happening us connected to me somehow. With my name in every poster around the United States of America, how does he expect me to sleep in peace as if nothing has happened? I have been sitting here in the last six hours, waiting for Mason to come back. I don't want us to have a problem much less fight but he leaves me with no choice. If he could just be supportive and allow me to crack this case and clear my name. I also want to find out who murdered my parents. They might be adoptive parents but they treated me as their own. How can I let the death of the two people who did nothing but love me go unpunished. " It's getting late. You should go to bed." Theo says from behind me, draping a shawl on my shoulders. " Do you think he will come back? It's been hours, where the hell did he go?" I can't help but worry about Mason. I guess that's what happens when you are mated to someone. Theo sighs before sitting next to me, his arms snaking my waist. " He is mad but he will eventually come back. He can't stay away for long. The bond won't let him." Theo answers but his reply does nothing to calm me. " So the bond will drag him back here but not because he wants to be here?" I feel my throat clog from the thought. Why is it so hard to agree on something that feels so right? Theo pulls me into his arms, my head resting on his shoulders. He starts to draw circles on my back in an attempt to calm me. " Don't think about it too much. What matters is he will come back to us, his mates. We will talk about this matter when he's a little more calm." Theo whispers in my ears and I nod. With his foul temper, talking about it will only push Mason away from me and that's not something I want. I don't know if I can stay away from him anymore. I'm too attached to him to stay away. " Talking to him might as well push him away. I want to have both of you with me but this matter isn't something I can Just ignore and walk away from. It concerns the safety of millions of citizens of the United States of America. It's even alarming that the predator isn't any ordinary human. That criminal is undoubtedly a werewolf. That makes everything even more complicated." I am torn between my mate and the people. I have a responsibility towards the people as much as I am towards my mates. I don't want to see more people losing their lives in the hands of that killer. At the same time,I don't want to have to fight with Mason everytime I bring the matter up. " I understand princess, believe me, I do. But do you realise that Mason is just worried about you? The person doing all the killing is obviously not your normal werewolf. He must be powerful to be able to commit all those crimes without leaving a trace. This quest for the truth might land you into serious trouble, worse could be, you'll lose your life Melissa." Theo spoke. " I knew from the start that this mission will be hard but I am willing to take the risk. I can't just sit and watch such injustice happening." I clearly understand what kind of dangerous situation I am getting myself Into but that's the only way to learn the truth and uncover the masked killer. Only after that bastard is caught and rotting in jail will I be able to rest easy. " Have you considered what will happen to Mason and I if something happens to you? You are our mate Melissa. Can you atleast think about us before making up your mind. I know that you are a responsible police officer, but can't you leave this to the police department to handle. You are no longer an officer. On the contrary, you are a wanted criminal. Are you willing to throw away everything and delve into something that could kill you?" Theo's words hit me hard. Am I willing to throw everything away? Of Course not. I am not throwing everything away. That's what they are failing to understand. " I am not throwing everything away. The moment he killed my parents, he made everything personal. We are safe here now but who can guarantee that this will last? Who knows, if he comes looking for me, I'll have no way out. I'd rather strike first and deal with this trouble once and forever." Theo said nothing for a while before he sighed heavily. " I don't agree with your plan but I won't stop you either. If this is what you want, then who am I to stop you." His words had a sweet smile bloom on my lips. " Really?" I ask, hoping that Theo isn't just saying this to appease him. " I am serious but let me warn you, I won't hesitate to drag you back here if I sense that your life is in danger." Theo said. I jumped on him, hugging him tightly. " I can't believe you agreed with her ridiculous plan Theo. Do you realise what kind of danger she will be putting herself in?" Mason's angry voice sounded from behind us. Turning around, I smiled at him nervously. " Mason…" I start only to be cut off immediately. " I don't want to hear it Melissa. I don't care what Theo says to you. I will never allow it." Hr announced before walking away again. I was about to run to him when Theo held me back. " Forget it. I'll talk to him." He muttered and I nodded.
