the office

After work, I tidy up, intending to leave the office when I receive Theo's call.

I am about to accept the call when the commander saunters into my room.

I decline the call planning on calling him later after I leave the office.

" Are you leaving?" The commander asks and I fight the urge to roll my eyes at him.

Isn't it obvious that I am leaving.

" Yes sir. Do you have something you want me to do for you?" I ask in my professional voice.

" You are too official tonight and distant Tessa. Did I do something wrong?" The commander asks, making me frown.

I used to address him officially and although I am impersonating Tessa now, it would be hard to break from old habits.

" Nothing of that sort. Lorenzo, I guess I'm just tired." I reply in a soft voice, using his first name casually to dispense any suspicion.

" Then can I take you out for dinner? Just the two of us?' he proposes and just when I open my mouth to decline his invitation, his phone rings.

He stares at the screen of his phone for some time, as if contemplating whether to take the call or not before he excuses himself.

I find his behaviours suspicious so I activate my wolf abilities.

Two minutes later, he enters my office, his face wearing an apologetic look.

" I'm sorry Tessa but something important came up. Don't worry, I'll make it up to you ." He says but I shake my head.

" It's okay. I don't feel well so I could use some time to rest." I reply with a smile.

" Okay then, I'm leaving." He announces before strutting outside.

My eyes narrow at the man.

Although my hearing abilities are not top notch, I still heard most of their conversation.

' Our meeting isn't until two days later, why do you want us to meet out of the blue?' that was what he asked and after receiving an explanation, he agreed to meet.

To convince him that I heard nothing, I had to inform him of my plan for sleeping early tonight.

Truth is, I'll be tailing him.

I have to know where he is going or who he is meeting.

After leaving the office, I give Theo a call.

" Why did you decline my call?" That's the first question that greets me when the call goes through.

" Won't you say hi to your mate?" I replied.

Theo sounds anxious for some reason and I know that he must be worried, especially after not receiving his call.

" I thought something happened to you princess." He says making my heart flutter and a smile to paint my lips.

" You were worried about me?" I tease. Having someone care and worry about you feels so good but having someone special to worry about your well-being feels even better.

Back when my adoptive parents were still alive, they would remind me to take care of myself but those words sound different coming from my mates.

They make me feel loved and appreciated; that someone needs me to be safe and not some formality.

" That should not be a question. It's given, Melissa." Theo replies in all seriousness.

" I'm fine Theo. The commander was in my office, that's why I did not answer your call." I reply honestly.

" Did he give you trouble?" Theo asks, his tone telling me that he will rush to that man and skin him alive if he troubled me.

" I can take care of myself Theo "

" I know that but regardless, I want to be there to protect you." Theo replies intimately.

" The commander is meeting someone tonight. I have to follow him secretly. I have a feeling that whoever he's meeting is somehow connected to this murder case." I inform Theo.

" I can't leave my post tonight so I can't accompany you. Should I ask Mason to come and be with you? I will only feel better if one of us is with you " Theo raises his concern.

I know he's worried about me but it would be better if they could trust me to take care of myself.

" Don't take me wrong Melissa,I just can't bear the idea of something happening to you." Theo says, making me smile.

" Don't worry, I will only follow him. I'll be discreet and I promise, I won't engage." I say to assure him.

After wishing me good luck, we ended the call .

It's nighttime when Lorenzo leaves his office.

He has changed from his uniform and is wearing casual clothes.

I watch as he cautiously looks around before sliding into his car and driving off.

I follow him with Tessa's car, making sure to keep our distance unless he realises that he's being followed.

Lorenzo drives to a casino, The heist.

It is a famous casino which is legit in the whole of the United States.

I park outside, a Street opposite before stepping out and crossing to the other side.qd

It's said that this casino only houses top government officials and rich business men so seeing him drive here is a red flag.

Lorenzo might be a commander of the FBI unit but that does not make him rich.

If he's here, it can only be for official purposes or he's meeting someone who I'd be powerful enough to get him a membership card.

To get a membership card, one has to be million dollars rich on cash, talk less of liquid funds.

Knowing that there's no way I will be allowed in, I turn to make my way to my car only to collide with a well dressed man.

I brace myself, awaiting the pain when strong arms snake my waist, stabilising me.

A familiar scent hits my nose. Slowly I raise my head to confirm my suspicion and true to my thoughts, it's him.

" What the hell are you doing here?" I shriek, looking around to see if anybody saw him.

" Miss,do we know each other?"
