After dinner, Moon headed upstairs to shower. She was in her room drying her hair. She didn't hear the knock at the door. Sun just let herself in. She came in and set on Moon's bed. What is it? So, are ready for next week's ball? Moon sighed and walked over to the bed and set down next to Sun. No, I'm not going. And why on earth not. I'm not ready and I don't know if I'll ever be. It is just… It just. Moon, I lost mom and dad too. I know I wasn't with you guys that night. But, I still miss them too. You know what though, mom and dad would have wanted me to keep moving forward. I know it is not easy. But finding your mate may take some of the pain away. That's the thing, I don't want to get close to anyone. I can't bear losing someone else I love. Look, Moon, people will hurt you, so will situations. But you can't live your life under a rock. I know. I won't live it under a rock. I'll just live it alone. I'm also leaving next week. "What, are you stupid?' Sun yelled. " No, I'm not." Moon shot back, but you are. Sun glared at her. You must be feeling guilty, is that why you're running. Maybe you did have something to do with their death. Moon reeled back as though she'd just been slapped. I didn't mean it. I'm so sorry. "Get out." Moon mumbled quietly. "I'm sorry Sun pleaded. "GET OUT MY FUCKIN ROOM!" Moon growled. Sun quickly made her way to the door. She'd never seen her that upset. Moon was on her heels. Sun stepped out into the hallway. Just as she turned to face the door, Moon slammed it shut. It rattled on its hinges. She shook her head. What have I done? Sadness replaced the look of anger on Moon's face. As she slides down the door. Tears willed up in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. Reaching up, she locked the door. She stayed there for a while thinking. Mind made, she got up. Forget about waiting, she was out of here. Going over to her wardrobe, she opened it. Reaching in, she pulled out a small duffle bag. She grabbed some clothes, a hygiene kit, a photo of Sun, her and their mom and dad. She looked at it longingly, before placing it in a small pocket. Placing the duffle bag on the floor, opposite the door. She made her way to the door and crept downstairs. Heading toward the kitchen, she grabbed some trail mix, nuts, and a few bottles of water. Going back up, she went into her room and locked the door once more. Hurrying around, she made sure she wasn't leaving anything she needed. Suddenly remembering, she walked over to the nightstand. Opening one of the drawers, she grabbed her stash of money. Closing the drawer back. Walking over she turned out the light. She walked over to the window, and quietly opened it. She looked around outside and saw no one. They were probably changing shifts. Which was a good thing. Several wolves patrolled the grounds twenty-four hours a day. Deciding it was safe, she swung her left leg over and out the window sill. And did the same with the right one and jumped. Landing with a soft thud. She silently thanked God, she was only on the second floor. Dropping down, she backed back into the shadows. Looking around again, and still seeing no one. She made a mad dash for her hiding spot. Once there, she grabbed her bike. Her car would be too noisy. And drawing attention to herself, was the last thing she needed. Taking one last look around. She would miss here. This is where she was born and grew up. Here is where her best friend is. Here is where it was once, a big happy family. Here was where. here world had changed forever. She began peddling none stop for a couple of miles. When finally, the weight of the night's events hit her like a ton of bricks. Tears she'd held back, flowed freely. Clouding her view. The streets were pretty much empty. As she tried to wipe her face, she momentarily lost control of the bike and ending up sliding down a muddy hill. She landed on her butt. "Great." She sighed. Looking up, she knew there was no way she could climb back up. She tried looking around for a path, but it was too dark. There was no moon tonight, and the trees were too dense, even for a wolf to see through. So she tried walking in the general direction she fell from. Which made her even more lost. "Not good." She said. She sighed, suddenly the wind shifted, and another scent hit her.The scent of other wolves. That's even worse she thought. She quickly tried to get downwind of them. But the wind kept changing directions. She even tried to find a tree to climb. With no luck though. A long howl erupted followed by growls. She jumped, startled by the sound. "Oh s**t!" Not good, not good at all. She headed for some dense trees, to at least be able to blend in with the shadows. She ducked by a huge rock, near one of the trees. Peering over it, she saw five werewolves emerge out in the opening. Four of them were massive, she was sure they were bears. The smaller wolf seemed to be leading. The other four, two were on either side of the small one. She saw one of the larger ones sniff the air around them, then pointed in her general direction. "Oh shit." "Oh shit." Her heart started pounding in her chest. She started panicking. f**k! She ducked back down behind the rock. "Calm down Moon." She said to herself. Think. Come on think. Suddenly, an idea came to her. She waited nervously. Hearing the leaves crunching near, she put her plan into action. Finding a heavy branch, she threw it as far away from her as she could manage.
