ASHTON CLARK’S POV
When I was a kid my mom used to read me stories about heroes. But then, I didn’t foresee that I would act like such a hunter now. I did it for her for the first time, but I was too late to save and give her the cure for her illness. Death had played with me a very long time ago and now he’s my companion, offering those lives to him as if it’s just my usual routine. Hired for several years even before this happened, I mastered my skills and I didn’t forget to mark them on their necks. I am known for that.
There were times, several months, that I have stopped doing it. My drive had faded to thin but the guy in front of me had fired it up once again for some reason. He took me out of the prison and got me to find my purpose. Alejandro, the great leader of Howard Organization had made me into new. Humming at the corner of the kitchen table, he enjoyed himself by wiping the sandwich spread on the bread. It is near its expiration date and it is the last bottle that he got. He’s also the one who had styled my hair enough to cover my eye
“Are you not going to change your clothes?” He asked.
“I will. Ten minutes more.”
He faced him and took his first bite. The spread was squeezed with his teeth and dripped on the sides of the bread. It is strawberry. “By ten minutes, she might come here now.”
“It’s still three in the morning, Alejandro. Who in their right minds would go here at this time?”
“What’s wrong with the time?” A woman suddenly spoke for herself from behind.
The two of us froze and couldn’t believe that she was too early. I heard Alejandro clear his throat and turned with a splendid smile. “Well, looks who’s here. Our genius old friend, Amelia.” He walked towards her and slowly planted a fervent kiss on her hand. She chuckled in delight as a response.
“It’s better to be early than to be late.” She said and pulled her light red shoal, placing it on the chair.
I wriggled when he was near already to her. She stinks like the sewers. Even if she’s wearing her yellow wide-leg pants and striped tee, her smell is much stronger that even Alejandro could smell it. Now, I had recalled what he had told him, which is totally the opposite. Too bad that I started to judge her by her looks, only to find out that the woman is also doing the same thing.
“Having a good time?” She question me, raising her eyebrow.
“Is this the right woman that you’re talking about a while ago?” I pointed at her as she looked with an intimidating expression to Alejandro.
He wiped off his hand with the clean towel. He just finished his sandwich and he didn’t even share it with him. Ashton peeped over the window and saw the others roaming around. The ground had been well-trimmed a day before and their fences were now set high together with those barbed wires. They also planted some mines outside those fences for their security.
"I don't know what you're talking about behind my back but absolutely this is me. I was called by your master."
"I'm not talking to you. Who's she?"
"I'm Amelia. Can you tell this man to stop fooling around? I'm not here to make a joke out of me."
Her attitude is giving me the creeps and for the very long time I hate a woman again. Somehow, her features are familiar to me, I just couldn't dig it up where I met her.
"Well, I am quite sure that you have seen me else where while you're strolling, but I don't mind if you don't remember me at all. Let's get into it." She directly settled and tapped the table for us to sit with her.
Alejandro had offered her tea. The morning is about to come and I felt drowsy. I couldn't think of anything why we needed to talk at this time. Maybe it is so significant that Alejandro had decided to put it like this.
The woman sipped her cup and said, "I don't have it."
I've seen Alejandro's face a bit disappointed, but he's able to cover it with a faint smile. "Are you sure about that?"
"Yes. I already left that group, remember? Also I don't know if they also have that weapon. I don't have any connection at all."
"What about the Ethernal"
"Wait, are we talking about that weapon?"
"Yes." They both answered in the same manner.
"The Ethernal? What do you mean by that?"
"I heard that they're making the same weapon all over again-"
"Well, if they could succeed, then I would clap my hands for them. But it would be less than a percent for them too. They needed the serum that is attached to the original one. It's the point." She added.
"What do you need?" Alejandro directly queried.
When he asked that, he meant business. He wanted to do negotiations with her. A gentle touch was caressed on Alejandro's arm. She's trying to buy time. I could tell that.
"I don't need anything, Timcon."
"So, are your service free for anyone-"
"I don't work for anyone. The past couldn't be altered or be different. Are you trying to buy me so you could have that same weapon too?"
"Yes. I want you to make me one."
One thing that I am amazed about him is him being straightforward. Anything that he wants, he needs to have it. We heard her sigh.
"It's pointless." She slowly stood up and pulled a stick from her bag to smoke herself. She looked over the place. "Everyone got this obsession about it, don't you think? I can't make it...but, I could give you a tip if that's what you want." She looked at us with such dare in her stand.
