To Pass A Message

“It’s a badge from the hospital that had been working with the experiments related to this misfortune.” She spoke. She twirled it around her palm, but she didn’t let Isabela take it. It is so valuable that it could cause her life. “It looks like you gain such connection with their current leader.” She shared. “Yeah, to the point that she had trusted me to train and steer their troops.” “Lucky?” “I think so.” It is the first time that they have shared such a decent conversation together after so much time of mockiness and pride. Suddenly, they have weighed the problem more and the same as Isabela, she had seen Mildred, after being taken by the new group, grew like a real warrior. “Also, you don’t want that case to be in the hands of your loving father.” She straightforwardly added, making her to question about it. “Why? Are you not telling me everything and why does it have to be only me?” “Because you play an important role, princess.” She took a stick from her wallet and lit it all up. Thin grey smoke was blown in front of Isabela. A couple of seconds after, a knock was laid by Catheryne. She wanted to enter and join them as she was finished locking Devian back. “Man, why is she always prying. Does she need my autograph too?” She took a heavy sigh and opened the door for her. She examined the sides. The outside was already dark and there is no one passing by. The door was also locked from the inside and they were the only ones who have lighted the lamp. When she entered the room, Mildred immediately turned the light off and now they couldn’t see anything. “Why did you do that?” She irritably asked. “So, no one would visit us again this night. I don’t want to be stopped when I’m talking, especially when it’s important.” “Am I allowed to listen now?” “Of course. The three of you are like sticky notes. Also, there’s something you need to know about the New League.” “Do you mean about the Doctor?” “Hmm. That’s a new side of the story too, Runner. As what I have said, you can’t let the case be in the hands of Mr. Wilbert. The truth is, I snatched this badge from her. She doesn’t want to make me have this and she tried to hide it, but I was too hooked by her stories and got it for myself.” She chuckled and finished her cigarette. “Do you ever wonder why she hasn’t killed you back in that hospital?” “We’re both shocked by our meeting. The only thing I know is that she stole that valuable case. Maybe I was just damn lucky that she even spared my life.” “That’s true, but there’s always another side of a tale. She wanted to give you this.” She offered her a small piece of paper, just like the one she had given to Devian. It was from Roxan herself. Catheryne stared at it, blinking her eyes. “Man, I took my way out in that stinky place just to get here and be a messenger too and now you’re just going to stare like it’s a portrait?” She silently took it from her hand as she nibbled her lip. “It’s from her. Basically, she knew that I am after you and this team. I don’t feel bad leaving her. The main reason why I am here is to find the man and to deliver the messages to you respectively. Oh, there’s also for the doctor.” “I don’t understand. Why would the current leader of that group try to communicate with us all of a sudden? There’s something strange going on.” Catheryne crossed. “Here we go again with you blubbering your thoughts. Of course, she wants to win just like ours. One thing I learned from her is sometimes you need to make an alliance with your foes to take down the bigger enemy. Devian had already started it when she tried to talk with the Howard, but it was halted by the New League for some reasons." "And what's the reason for that?" Isabela grabbed her mini lighter and lighted it up. She couldn't deal with the darkness around her and those tiny bugs biting her. "Just deal with it. We're in the most cornered room in this place, so no one would easily see us here." "Lower your voices. I know you're on call and will be having your shifts in a while. Before you leave, make sure that you'll go with Captain Roswal tomorrow or just do whatever it takes to get to the Circle." "You know we can't go there that simple. We need permission." Isabela declared. "Is being his daughter a valid one?" She glimpsed over to her best friend who was now sitting beside her. She slowly shook her head as a response. "No..." "That old man doesn't consider his daughter visiting him? Too bold or maybe he just cares too much that he doesn't want you to be ill like him. Do you even know his current findings?" "That's out of the line. Mr. Wilbert doesn't want to share his results with anyone else." Catheryne added. "That's not even new. Well, I don't want to question his decisions. So, you should read that message on your own. I'll be off now. It's almost eight and you'll be shifting. I'll see you later at three." She jolted from her spot and made her hair into a bun. Stretching her arms, she winked at them and held the knob. "Where are you going? You didn't explain everything yet." Catherine wanted to make Mildred to stay. "I'll just roam around. Don't worry, I won't be setting this whole place in fire. I might consider myself as your guardian angel somehow. Enjoy." She didn't wait for them to talk again and she instantly set herself outside, disappearing without a trace." "Really? You're just going to let her go like that? What if it's a trap." Catheryne couldn't believe what Isabela had let go. "She knows the rule." "Oh, you mean, coming home with a bacon." "Exactly." Isabela snapped her fingers and smiled. "She got what we need and this time we're going to out our faith on her. Days are coming and we need to be prepared." "We should be. A wolf just came home." Catheryne stared at her with a dead expression.
