Us and the Beast — Episode 1: Welcome to the Island
Ethan woke up with a face full of dirt and a neck that protested louder than an angry alarm clock. “Ow… why does everything smell like… tree?” he muttered, blinking at the green jungle around him.
Kai was sitting nearby, looking like a very confused potato. His shirt was ripped, one shoe was missing, and his hair was sticking up in every direction. “Great. We’re stranded. Fantastic. Just what I wanted,” he groaned.
Ethan groaned too. “Yeah… because surviving on an island was on my bucket list.”
They both slowly stood up, brushing leaves off like tiny green monsters were clinging to them. Trees loomed overhead like skyscrapers, vines swung in the wind like they were on some jungle amusement ride, and birds squawked like they were judging the boys’ life choices.
“First things first,” Ethan said, trying to sound smart. “Shelter. Because I do not want to sleep under a tree and wake up with a snake on my face.”
Kai nodded, looking determined but still slightly terrified. “And food. And water. And… maybe a survival guide would be nice.”
As they explored, Ethan tripped over a root. “Ow! Why does the jungle have roots specifically designed to ruin my life?”
Kai laughed. “Relax, genius. At least we’re alive. Mostly.”
They started gathering sticks and leaves, building a tiny shelter that looked more like a pile of messy sticks than a safe house. Every snap of a branch made them jump, every rustle in the bushes made their hearts skip a beat, and every bird’s squawk sounded suspiciously like laughter at their expense.
Ethan looked around nervously. “Okay… I swear I saw something move over there.”
Kai squinted at the shadows. “Probably… a really big bird. Or a squirrel. Yeah. Definitely not anything scary.”
Little did they know, the jungle had its own plans. Something was watching… but not yet. The boys were still safe… for now.
With a deep sigh, Ethan flopped onto the ground. “Well, at least we’re alive. And… probably going to be miserable for a while.”
Kai smirked. “And hilarious… in hindsight. Maybe.”
And so began the adventure of two clueless humans on a mysterious island, where danger lurked somewhere just out of sight, and the rules of survival were about to get very, very weird.
