CHAPTER 3: I Can be the Addition

(11 AM, YURIHAN Building)

*Hojun’s POV*

“Please restrict everyone who tries to enter the building, secure all entrance. Please inform one another if you see something unusual. We’re on channel 3. The first shift will start now, until 3 AM, and then take turns. Okay, go to your position now” I said to the security guards.

“YES SIR” they all replied and they go to their position.

I walk into the building and start patrolling every single area.

(2 AM)

I decided to go to the lab where the intruder went. There is no one in the lab too.

I checked every direction, every sub room, I illuminate the entire area and the entire item to make sure there are no oddities. Suddenly I hear some vague footsteps outside. I hurriedly turn off my flashlight and go inside the storage room to monitor.

“Guys, there’s someone in the lab, why no one reported?!” I whispered through the walkie talkie. But no one’s answering. Okay I have to deal with this alone.

I grabbed my gun, and aiming it to the intruder.

He’s walking to the storage room too; I hide in between the shelf, while he’s slowly walking with his gun.

I slipped behind him and pointing my gun to his head,

“Drop your gun, or I’ll shoot” I said.

He slowly dropped his gun, but he quickly turned his head and grabbed my gun.

He punched me in the face, and we started to fist fight. We attacked one another.

I can tell he’s a trained guy, he has a lot of strength.

He punched me in the stomach and he took out his knife.

He got away and I blocked his movement.

“HOW DARE YOU STABBED MY DAD!!!” he screamed… eh? She screamed…

I stopped her hand and turn on the flashlight to light her face.

“Miss Danbi?” I asked in confusion

“Eh? H… HOJUN??!!” she gasped.

“Why didn’t I notice any of this?? I'm always beside you. What the…” I asked myself.

“Well actually you are not. I also have secret you know” she replied.

“I only left you in the bedroom, and even then I waited outside. Since when did you learn self-defense?” I asked her. I have no clue.

“Well, that’s my secret. I practice in my room. No one knows this except my dad” she answered.

“Woah, so all this time, I protected a strong woman. Maybe you are even stronger than me, I am basically useless” I said in disbelief while shaking my head.

“No no no. Don’t say that. You’re very useful. I have to maintain feminine image in public, so…” she said.

“STILL… I’ve been serving you for 8 years. I can’t believe you hide this from me” I rose my voice.

She looks shocked when I rose my voice.

“Uhm… sorry. I just can’t believe. You are 180 degrees different from what I usually see” I replied

She chuckled.

“Anyway… let’s go, I’ll take you home. It’s dangerous here” I said and grabbed her arm.

“What are you saying? I’m here to investigate. I know it’s dangerous before I came here” she said.

“I promise the chairman to keep you safe” I said.

“I can take care of myself, I also don’t need to pretend anymore in front of you” she answered.

I don’t know what to say, it is actually true, she can defense herself…

“Hhh, okay. Just promise me you’ll be careful. Let’s go outside, we have to search the entire area” I said to Miss Danbi

She agrees and We go outside to patrol.

“Hojun, I want to go to the restroom first, can you wait for me?” she asked.

“Alright, I’ll wait outside” I said.

While waiting for her, a report comes from the security guard.

“Sir, the intruder… he beat all the security guards in the loading dock. Now he’s heading to the 7th floor. Bravo team is chasing him right now”

“On it!” I answered. 7th floor is where we are now, he definitely won’t be far.

Suddenly I hear another vague footstep. I look around to find him. I took out my gun.

“Hojun, let’s go” Miss Danbi said.

“He’s here” I replied to her quickly.

*Danbi’s POV*

“What?” I quickly put out my gun.

“He’s on the 7th floor. Be cautious” Hojun said to me while his hand is blocking my way.

I hear footsteps approaching, Hojun and I walked to the alley back to back.

“Miss Danbi, don’t make any suspicious movement” he said.

“I know I know. Calm down” I replied nervously.

“I can’t. I’ve never seen you like this!” he replied me back. I can tell he’s nervous but still concern.

Then I see someone trying to break the lab’s door.

“Hojun, the lab! I see him” I said.

“Let’s go!” Hojun said, he started running.

I followed him to the lab, he’s running so fast, I almost can’t catch up.

“YAH!” Hojun screamed, and then he kicked the intruder in the face.

The intruder fell down, and he started running away as soon as possible.

Hojun caught him, and he punched him in the face, but the intruder fought back, and he run again.

I run as fast as I can and I catch him, I do some taekwondo to him, but he kicked me in the stomach twice, real hard.

The Bravo team arrived and they run to catch him.

“Miss Danbi, are you alright?” Hojun said to me.

“I am… Let’s go catch him!” I said to Hojun.

“Bravo team is chasing him; they’ll take care of him. But first let me take a look at your injury” he said.

“No, he’ll get away!!” I tried to stand up, but my stomach hurts so bad.

“Listen to me!! You’ll never catch him in this condition” Hojun snapped.

I looked at him, and he looks concern.

“Let’s go home for now, and wait for the report” his voice softened. He carried me and we walked outside the building together.

(in the car)

“Bravo team, how is it?” Hojun asked the team.

“We lost him sir, he ran outside through the emergency exit” one of them said.

Hojun hit the steering wheel. He is pissed.

“Alright, you’ve worked hard. Did anyone get hurt?” he said.

“Yes sir, 2 people. The intruder stabbed them with his knife” they said.

What? another stabbing victim. This can’t be ignored. I clenched my fist.

“Okay, first bring them to the residence to get the first aid kit. I have to drive Ms. Danbi home” Hojun said.

“Ms. Danbi, is it still hurt?” he asked me.

“Not really, but I think it will leave bruises” I said.

“Do you mind if I see?” he asked carefully.

“Uh, O… Okay” I answered.

He started to lift my clothes a little bit. I am blushing, I feel so shy. This is the first person who asked to look at my stomach. Ughh! Danbi what am I thinking?

“Well, Ms. Danbi, you are bruised. Hhh, look what happened if you fight alone” he said and sighed.

“Don’t try to investigate this again, let us handle this” he added.

“What? No… look, we lost him. Even your team already ran to catch him, but they also failed. An addition should be nice for now. I can be the addition. Plus, 2 of the security guards are down” I asked him.

“But…”

“Hojun, what we need is a plan! We can’t fight him unplanned. We don’t even know if it’s ‘him’ or ‘them’, right? We can fight together” I cut him right away. He looked at me and shook his head.
