MIRANDA'S POV. I sat down in the hospital waiting room, my hands clasped tightly together in my lap, my eyes fixed on the ground. The air was heavy with the smell of antiseptic and the low hum of the overhead light filled the room with a sterile glow. I have been waiting for what felt like eternity, my heart pounding in my chest as I tried to brace myself for the news the doctor is about to deliver. My mother had suffered a stroke earlier today and the uncertainty of the situation weighed heavily on my mind. Every passing minute felt like eternity as I anxiously glanced at the clock on the wall, willing the hand to move faster. Finally he swung open, and the doctor stepped out, his face somber. “Doctor,” I said anxiously. The doctor took in a deep breath, steeling himself for the difficult conservation ahead. “Miranda, your mother's stroke has spread and has become complicated, and has become more serious than we initially thought”. The pack doctor said. My heart clenched at the doctor's words, my hands gripping the hem of my shirt tightly. I searched the doctor's face for a hint of hope but there was none, only sadness. “The stroke caused significant damage to your mother's brain, despite our best effort, her condition is deteriorating” the doctor continued and his voice filled with regret. “We are doing everything possible to make her stable, but I have to be upfront with you about the seriousness of this situation” the doctor said. Tears welled up in my eyes as I struggled to process the harsh reality of my mother's declining health. The doctor reached out a hand, offering me a tissue as he continued to explain the medical details, his tune gentle but unwavering. “I know this is incredibly difficult to hear Miranda” the doctor said softly. “But it's important we are honest about what's happening. I'm here to support you through this, we will do all we can to provide your mother the best care” he said “But it requires a lot of money” he added ★★★★★★★★★★ In the hospital room where my mother was, I sat beside my mother. My face etched with worry and sadness, I gazed at my mother who lay unconscious and hooked up to various machines that beeped and hummed rhythmically. The weight of mounting hospital bills pressed heavily on my shoulders. I wondered how I would get that kind of money to pay for my mother's treatment. The Tobi's have helped us enough, and they went to Los Angeles for vacation. I can't just call them asking for help and make them cut their trip and come running down here with a lot of trouble, and they have done enough for me and my mom. In my deep thought, as I was lost in my thought, the door cracked open and my uncle Mike came in, he entered the room. His tall, imposing figure with a calculating gaze on me made me uneasy. He began to speak his voice low and persuasive. “Listen dear niece” he started, his eyes darting around as if he was checking for eavesdroppers. “I have a proposition for you,” he said. “I have a friend in Blood moon pack, she is the chief head of maids, I have spoken to her about you and she has agreed to take you as a maid” he continued “The pay is good and it will help you cover your mother's hospital expenses” he said. My heart raced at the mention of a well paying Job that could potentially solve my financial woes. But a nagging feeling crept to my mind as I studied my uncle's expression. There was something in his eyes, a glint of something that I couldn't quite place that set me on the edge. “Why now?” I said firmly, standing on my feet. “The past nineteen years of my life you never seem to care, I and my mother fed off from the crumbs that your family left now you are playing good uncle” I said with fire ignited by anger burning through my eyes. “Every day of my life I wake up asking myself what went wrong? What didn't I do right? Why the neglect?” I asked each step towards him. “This kindness is too good to be true” I said, shaking my head in doubt. “Come on Miranda don't let the past determine the future, it's your mother's life on the line here” he said in reminder. But now I'm confused. Is he truly concerned about my well being or did he have ulterior motives hidden beneath his facade of kindness? “I can't trust you, my father trusted you to keep me and my mom safe but what did you do, you turned us into your personal maids ,you treated us like s**t” I said on the verge of crying. “Miranda you don't understand, just let all of that go. Just accept the offer and you and your mom will be okay, just think of the money that will come with this Job.” He said and continued. “Where you will be working in the blood moon pack, where all the elite werewolfs base and you can come to see your mom on weekends,”he said, trying to convince me. Mike's suggestion of me taking up a maid job in a blood moon pack is a good idea with a good pay but I can't help but feel this shill running through my spine. I wondered why he was suddenly being so accommodating, seemingly caring, after all the maltreatment my mother and I have endured in the hands of him and his family. “I won't go, I refuse to be swayed by your sudden kind gestures” I said my voice firmly with determination. Mike's expression hardened and he quickly masked it with a fake smile. “I know you don't trust me, but it's your mother's life we are talking about here. I have nothing to lose if you don't go, I'm just helping out here.” Mike said. “What about my mother? I can't leave her like this!” I said with a worried tone. “Don't worry I will take care of her and pay for her bills until you are back on your feet and come visiting” he said sounding convincing. Reluctantly I agreed to his proposal, driven solely by my mother's deteriorating health. I have to do anything to save even though I have to leave her in the hands of uncle Mike.
