Carina POV
Silent tears run down my cheeks as I look at Richard. I have no idea if he is still aware of his surroundings. The only sign of life is his shallow and slow breathing. Even though I know Richard is sick and dying, it still feels surreal that this is the end.
Gently, I lay Rick against Richard’s chest and wrap his arm around my baby.
“I don’t know if you’re still here,” I smile through my tears. “But one day, I’ll tell my son his grandfather held him before he died.”
“I’m going to miss you so much,” I sniff, wiping my tears. “I promise I’ll never forget you or what you’ve done for me. I will raise Rick to be kind and fair like his father and grandfather. And I will teach him about you every day.”
Richard’s fingers gently curl into Rick, and I gasp softly.
