“I don’t know where we’re going,” said Shayla, who continued on a direct course through waters neither of them had ever traversed. Pheyus didn’t know either. He knew he was following her, and nothing more. She seemed determined in her direction and speed, despite her words to the contrary. They were currently passing through a quiet area. There was no significant life within echo distance, and there hadn’t been for quite some time. Earlier there had been swarms of albacore, and a company of Common Delphine larger than Pheyus had ever seen. Actually, he had only heard them off in the distance, but their numbers were so enormous, their racket created quite an unmistakable picture. Pheyus had immediately wanted to bolt toward their friendly sounds, but Shayla had maintained her course.
