"What the hell do you all take me for?!" I shout after a few seconds of looking at the pen. "I'm not just some object you can sell off!" I look at my father with furry in my eyes. 'How could he?!' is the only question that is set on repeat in my head. Before I can say anything else, I feel a hand on my waist pulling me from the chair I was sitting on to a corner in the hallway. "If you love your family you'll sign this f*****g contract, get your bags, and move into my house." I feel Landon's hot breath on my neck. "f**k you!" I say hissing. He took in a sharp breath. "You wanna know how it came to it, to this?" he says cupping my face, making me face him. "Me being sold off?" I ask raising an eyebrow and he smirked. "Call it whatever you want but you didn't answer my question," he said gripping my waist tightly. "Do you want to know?" he said in a low voice, pressing his lips to my ear. I gulped. "Yes..." I said, whispering. "Your father lost you in a game of poker. He was so drunk, he thought he was almighty." He says and I could feel his lips forming a smirk. "What?" I said in disbelieve, shaking my head, trying to loosen his grip on me. "I let him win game after game, making him believe he was going to win the whole night. I suggested we played for something more, and he happily agreed." I shook my head. "Why would you suggest that, I mean you never even met me till now," I said with a shaky voice. "I needed assurance he will keep up his part of the deal. You seemed perfect to do so. The perfect assurance. As for not meeting you before. I know a lot of people. Maybe we haven't met till now, but that doesn't mean I haven't seen you before." he looked me straight in the eyes and a shiver ran down my spine. "If you want for your parent to have a good life and not lose everything that they worked so hard for, you go in there and sign that piece of paper." He loosened his grip, tucked back a strand of my hair, and walked off, back to the dining room. I had tears in my eyes. I was torn between doing everything to keep my parents happy, as they did for me my whole life, although my father wasn't the best at it, I still loved him and I couldn't deny that or doing something selfish, runaway and never look back, find myself a new life and start fresh. "f**k" I muttered under my breath as I started walking back into the room without even knowing it. I took the pen that was now laying in front of me on the table and quickly signed the contract. Signing my life away. My freedom to do as I please. 'At least it's only a year...' I told myself, trying but failing to calm myself down.
Everyone was silent for a moment. I looked up and saw my mother with tears in her eyes, she seemed in shock. I just knew that she had no idea about what dad had done and that everything came to her as a surprise, just like to me. I stood up and put my arms around her neck, pulling her into a hug soon feeling her tears drip on my shoulder. "Pack some clothes, we'll be leaving in 20." I bit down on my lip, clenching my teeth as I heard Landon's voice behind me. "You should go, honey." my mother says before pulling away from the hug. I nod and look around searching to find my father before I heard a door slam shut. I didn't understand. I didn't understand how he could be upset about this situation when he was the one who caused it. I should be the one slamming doors and running away from this situation, but no, I decided to sacrifice a year of my life for them. For him! And I don't even deserve to get a hug and hear a goodbye from him?! 'f**k him!' I think and turn around just hit a hard chest. I look up and see Landon roll his eyes, making me roll my eyes right back. "I'll wait outside the car for you. Hurry up," he says, then grabs the contract and walks out the door. "I would never have asked you to do this." I hear my mother's voice. She sounded breathless but I couldn't bring myself to turn around. "It's fine mom, I know you have nothing to do with this, and this was my choice. I won't run away from it." I say with fake confidence in my voice before walking up the stairs to my room packing a few clothes, then taking my suitcase and walking downstairs. I give my mother one last hug and then walk outside. I close the door behind me when I feel someone aking my case from me. "Hello, miss. I'll take care of your suitcase, you can go wait in the car, Mr. Wolf is already waiting." the man in front me was smiling. He was in his late 50s, with gray hair, but still looked attractive. "Thank you," I said, plastering a smile on my face, walking to the car. I took a deep breath before opening the back door and sitting down.
We were driving for about 20 minutes now and nor I nor he had said anything. "So, what now?" I break the silence. "What do you think?" he askes me back and I don't bother to look at him. "You tell me," I say crossing my arms over my chest. A chuckle escapes his lips, which makes me turn my head to face him only to be met with his gaze. "Patience," he says not breaking eye contact, then turning his head looking out of the window. "There were some rules listed in the contract over which we will go once we arrive at my house." I sigh. I feel a heaviness in my chest. I just hope this whole thing will be innocent. There is no way I'll be playing his little w***e.

An hour later the car comes to a stop and I look out of the window. "You call this your house?" "Well, what else should I call it?" he says with amusement in his voice. "A mansion?" I say, the sentence coming off more as a question than a statement. He doesn't reply, he just opens his door and steps out and after a few seconds, I do the same. It's already dark outside and the white mansion made out of some kind of white stone is beautiful. illuminated by lights that give me a yellow kind of undertone. The pebbles under my feet give out a crunchy sound as I start to walks towards the entrance. The lawn was as green as it could get, there was a black gate surrounding the mansion, and all in all, it looked like heaven on earth. "I'll show you your room." Landon's voice was soft and calm, it was different from before. He wasn't as tense, maybe because we were now on his territory.
We walked up to the beautiful white marble stairs that were covered by a midnight blue rug. The inside of the mansion was both classic yet modern and I loved it. I felt curiosity take over me as if I was a child, wanting to run around and explore the house that I now had to call home. And that¨s when it hit me once again. I have a year to do so.
One year, starting now.
