The music bounced off of the darkly painted walls in a million different hardly recognizable fragments. Moving bodies swung back and forth over the crowded dance floor. Each dancer, if you could call what they were doing as dancing. Were lost in the mutli-coloured lights reflecting off of every metal, industrial surface of the interior of the club. The scattering glitter littering the floor and all of the patrons making the entire place seem like it were diamond encrusted. It wasn't the type of place you went to just have a drink or a casual catch up with friends, no this type of place was made for pleasure. Physical, mental, even supernatural at times. Which was what made it the perfect backdrop for Kane and his type of people to be seen in.
"Another one hun?" The bartender leaned down low over the bar top to ask Kane if he'd prefer another drink, even though judging by the low cut top and the tight, ridding up skirt he couldn't help but think she was perhaps offering something a bit more to his usual tastes.
"No thank you, Lilly." He answered instead, reading off of her name tag as he turned around in his seat so his back was facing her. He could practically hear the surprise taking over her face. How could she not be, he wasn't one who usually refused a chance at either another drink or a free night of something else. So why had he refused? Well that would be because of that obnoxious blonde that he couldn't get out of his head. The one who didn't have so much as an inch of rebellious nature inside of her. The type of girl he'd never find in a place like this. Perhaps if he could he'd have gotten her out of his thoughts by now. But no, there she was. With that stupid stubborn tilt of her head, those cornflower blue eyes, that seemed to stare him straight back to where he came from. "Actually I will take another." He suddenly announced, out of desperation to think about something other then her. Throwing himself back around to where Lilly, busily serving another women glanced sideways at him like he was acting as strange as he thought he was. The women she was helping was a rather pretty creature, not soft and bright as the one currently clogging up his thoughts. No, this one was dark and interestingly mysterious looking, he couldn't help but give her the once over she was screaming out for. The tight body con dress hugged every inch of her figure, a figure that was like a perfectly crafted hourglass. Her long dark hair fell in beautifully ringlets down her back and over her tanned shoulders. With a glance in his direction she c****d a challenging eyebrow, as if asking him to dare try and talk to her. This was the type of girl he always found in places like this. The manicured princesses that had daddies credit cards and bad attitudes, probably because they were so entitled because they've never had to earn a single thing in their entire lives.
"Here you go, also don't bother trying to pick up that one hot stuff." Lilly smirked handing him the glass, which was full of murky amber liquid.
"Oh and why not, don't think I can take her?" Kane titled his head and gestured with his glass towards the tall brunette. Lilly giggled into her hand and shook her head prettily towards him, like he was missing something obvious.
"Rose, this guy thinks he can take you on." Lilly smugly announced. Gesturing towards him as the brunette, who he assumed was named Rose, moved her unusual coloured eyes from her to him.
"Not my type Babe, but he's kinda cute." Rose grinned around the rim of her glass. "I guess." She pushed away from the bar, taking the two other drinks that had appeared in front of her along the way. "Thanks Love." She winked at Lilly quickly, before disappearing into the thralls of the many dancers around the bar.
"Kinda cute?" Kane gasped in mock shock. "I'll take that as a compliment from someone as attractive as her though." He added with a cocky grin of his own. Lilly arching a brow at him turned back to cleaning the mug off that she'd just picked up.
"You're so wasting your time there." She mused, placing the mug down to the bar top between her and Kane.
"What makes you say that?" He couldn't help the curiosity that sparked up in him from the other girls appearance. Perhaps because he had finally stopped thinking about that little blonde one.
"She's my girlfriend." Lillly shot back grinning from ear to ear, like the damn Cheshire cat himself. Spitting his drink out, back into his glass he quickly coughed to hide his easily visible stunned reaction.
"That'd explain it alright, damn." He laughed, placing his glass of half spat back liquid to the bar top next to the cleaned mug.
"She may be here with some friends though, maybe one of them would be more your speed." She suggested lightly, retrieving his abandoned glass. Kane watched her for but a moment, before glancing in the direction her girlfriend had ran off to.
"Maybe I'll just go find out." He stood to his feet, the alcohol he'd consumed since entering the club having had little effect on him. As usual it didn't hit him at all, barely a slight buzz was all he'd conjured up. A slight perk of what he was, he supposed.
"Good luck, with that one." Lilly murmured, almost as if to herself. Not looking back up to see if he had heard her or not. He choose not to answer her cryptic sounding message. At least not this time.
Turning to one of the more secluded sections of the club, he spotted the familiar head of hair from the bar. The Rose girl was sitting with her back towards him, talking rather animatedly with two other people who shared her booth. He cast his eyes over the two others. The boy she sat with seemed very familiar to him, it was something about the tumble of black locks falling low over his brows, brushing into sky blue eyes that made him question where he'd seen him before. Then it hit him, so hard and so fast that the boy was that Micah guy from his previous night in this very same club. The same Micah he'd ran away from the last time they'd met. Admittedly he could pull off the whole thing where he didn't remember who he was and hopefully he wouldn't notice something off. That would be awkward as hell but worth it? No. Kane had to admit defeat here, this wasn't worth it. That was until he noticed a sliver of honey toned hair peeking through a black hair tie that froze him in his spot. Why was she here? He could feel panic flash through him, the kind of which he hadn't felt since being home. It was like he was waiting for something awful to happen, perhaps that was why he didn't notice at first when two sets of eyes locked onto him. both equally surprised but one was more pleased then the other to what they were seeing. What a turn of fate, he thought bitterly. Just before Rose turned around to see what her two companions had suddenly found so much more interesting then herself.
"Oh well, look who we have here." She smiled prettily up at him, but there was an unsaid challenge littering her tone.
"Hey." Kane whispered through the lump forming in his throat. f**k he hadn't had a feeling like this one in years. He needed to escape, he had to run before something he couldn't fight back happened to him.
"Kane?" It was her voice, Zoey. Kane, almost as if on instinct turned his gaze to hers. As blue met brown he couldn't break free, not from her hold on him. For some reason it was like the rest of the room fell away around her. But that's crazy... isn't it?
"Zoey." Kane's feet moved as if of their own accord towards her. She looked away and he realized that when her eyes left his that he had cleared the space between them in a second. Crap he hadn't meant to seem that eager.
"You know him?" Micah was asking her. Zoey frowned slightly at this, her cornflower eyes searching her friends sky one's questioningly.
"How do you know him?" Zoey leaned forward, capturing Micah's hand in hers. It was clear she was the only thing keeping him tethered to the seat and not flying towards Kane as he looked like he'd entirely not be against doing. except it didn't seem like it'd be for the lovers embrace that he had shown Kane before.
"No, he doesn't." Kane's answered hastily before Micah could himself. He wasn't even entirely sure why he had done that.. Zoey turned to look at him, her eyes clouding with uncertainty.
"You sure of that?" Rose butted in, Kane spun around to glower down at her. Wishing beyond reason that he could just cast her aside, but knew by doing so he'd only cause more suspicion of himself, and to be honest he wasn't playing it very cool as of now anyways."Because it certainly seems like he does." She continued on as if his gaze held no weight to her. In fact as if in an act of ultimate defiance, she met it when she finished talking. c*****g her head to one side like she was purposefully taunting him. Under different circumstances that would have been a grave mistake to make.
"No, I don't know him." Micah admitted as if to himself, in a voice so devoid of emotions, it was like he was referring to nothing more then the time of day or the type of weather outside. Kane couldn't help but look over at him but his face was just as neutral as his tone had been. He wasn't even sure how to feel about the complete disregard of himself.
"Interesting." Rose tapped a ringed finger against the side of her glass thoughtfully. "Very interesting indeed."
"Anyways.." Zoey glanced between her two friends, seeming rather unsure of how to respond herself. "This is the guy from the coffee shop." She smiled, as if she was entirely pleased with herself. Micah on the other hand looked like he was about to cough up a hair ball and Rose looked stunned, if not a little bit more intrigued by him now then she had been.
"You don't say?" Rose moved over a little bit for Kane to take a seat next to her. "Well any friend of Zoey's is a friend of ours." She pushed a bit of her hair back behind her ear. Such a casual move. Yet to Kane it seemed very calculated, in fact he was beginning to suspect that she was a very calculating person. Someone who was overly aware of her surroundings and quick too, He'd have to watch that.
"Actually could I talk to you alone?" Zoey stood to her feet. Kane couldn't help the stutter in his heart beat at her appearance and how it took him by surprise. The only other time he had seen her she'd been bundled up in a sweatshirt and skinny jeans. Now though he couldn't help but marvel at her. If he'd thought Rose was attractive, that was nothing compared to how this one looked. The sparkling blue of her halter top, making her eyes dance with shimmering lights reflecting from it onto the irises. The way she filled out her mini skirt was something to appreciate as well. He couldn't help but nod at her. Memorized by the way her honey blonde hair caught the multi-coloured lights of the club. She looked like a pixie or a mermaid. Something entirely not human. Something a little more like himself perhaps.
"I don't know if that's such a good idea." Micah reached out, capturing her arm in a firm grip of one strong hand. Sending daggers towards Kane with a single look. Like he'd wish for nothing more in that moment then for the ground to split open and swallow Kane whole.
"Oh let her." Rose scoffed, waving her hand in the air in front of her. "She needs a little fun."
"I don't think you understand." Micah hissed between tensely clenched teeth.
"I think I do." Rose nodded towards Zoey, who looked at a lost for words. "But let her go."
"Rose." Micah frowned, a soft "V" forming between his brows.
"Will you two stop talking like I'm not right here." Zoey groaned exasperatingly. "I mean do you have an actual reason or not Micah?" She arched her brows at him, breaking his eye contact with Rose he paled a little bit.
"I'm just trying to protect you." He sounded hurt, and there was a distinct stench of betrayal looming around the three of them.
"I'm not going to hurt her." Kane spoke up, realizing maybe it'd have been better to just have stayed quiet instead, as three sets of eyes turned towards him. He backed up ever so slightly, it was hardly noticed by them.
"See? It's settled." Rose supplied at last, holding her glass up in a silent salute. "Besides, I need another drink."
"I know you care Micah, thats why I love you so much. But I'll be fine." Zoey kissed a very displeased looking Micah on the cheek. Before pulling away from his hold. Moving around the side of the booth that Kane stood in front of.
"We'll be back." Zoey waved over her shoulder at her two friends. Kane fell into step beside her as they moved away from the booth. Leaving Micah watching their departure with a look of someone who was facing a firing squad head on. Rose elegantly rose to her feet and snagged his empty glass from beside him.
"Look I don't known what that" She indicated to the direction Kane and Zoey had just disappeared to. " Was but, I say we get you another drink." Without awaiting a reply she was off, but Micah didn't anticipate her arrival back to be all that soon.Considering Lilly was at the bar too.So as he sat among the blasting music and the stale smell of liquor and salty sweat. He couldn't help but wonder if anything at all happened perhaps by chance. Or if someone up there was having fun, making his life these past couple months feel like the worst thing ever.
