Chapter 1
Selene's POV
The hall of the Crescent Moon Pack was filled with bright lights and beautiful decorations. The scent of roses, wine, and food filled the room. I stood nervously near the wall, holding cautiously my simple blue dress.
"This is a mistake" I whispered, looking towards the exit.
"Selene, stop it. You look beautiful" Sarah my only friend in the pack responded.
I raised my brows." You're the only one who thinks so. The other wolves look at me like I'm odd, a disturbance even."
Sarah's expression now softened, but she couldn't argue. Instead, she pushed me forward." Come on, at least try to enjoy the night. Who knows? You may find your mate." She smiled.
"My mate? Don't be ridiculous. I'm an omega, remember? Mates are for warriors, beta, and anybody who wasn't as weird as I was. But not me." I forced a smile.
Before Sarah could respond, the room went silent as the figure entered. It was Alpha Keiren Black.
He was even more intimidating than rumors had it. He was tall, his shoulders broad, with intimidating gold eyes. His aura demanded respect. The crowd parted for him to pass, and I immediately stepped back, holding he wouldn't notice me.
"He's even more gorgeous up close" Sarah whispered.
"You mean dangerous," I whispered back.
Alpha Kieran’s intimidating eyes looked through the crowd cold. I held my breath when they landed on me briefly before moving on. My heart raced for reasons even I couldn't explain.
"Ladies and gentlemen" Alpha Kieran’s deep voice echoed across the room. "Tonight, we honor tradition. The Moon Goddess has granted us mates, to strengthen our bonds and our pack. Let's find them tonight and most of all, have fun."
The room immediately cheered and clapped, but my hands remained still. Something in me kept reminding me that I didn't belong here.
"Come on Selene," Sarah interrupted my thoughts, pulling me towards the dance floor where others danced, hoping to catch the attention of the mate they desired.
"I can't...."
"Stop being so stubborn, you'll never know unless you try" she interrupted.
I signed as she dragged me into the crowd. The scent of many wolves overwhelmed me but then, something more happened.
A scent hit me, it was intoxicating, it was more than just the scent of other wolves. It made my wolf stir up for the first time in my life.
Mate!!
My breath became heavy, I Looked closer to the center of the room, and Alpha Kieren stood there, his golden eyes staring into mine. They were even more intimidating now.
"No" I whispered, taking a step back.
But it was too late. He was walking towards me, his eyes focusing more with each step. Whispers filled us, as the other wolves noticed his focus on me.
"Why is he looking at her so much?" I heard someone from the crowd say.
"An omega? Impossible." Another said.
He stood in front of me, and I was frozen. His intimidating presence amazed me, and I could feel his energy moving towards mine.
"You're my mate," I whispered, my voice filled with Fear.
His expression was confused, but then it turned into a cold smirk.
"No," he said, loud enough for everyone to hear. "You can't be my mate".
The room became silent once again. My heart was broken into pieces as he continued.
"The Moon Goddess must have made a mistake. You, an omega, could never stand beside me as a Luna. I reject you, Selene Arden."
The room, now filled with gaps, followed by murmurs and mockery.
"Kieren" I whispered, almost unable to speak. "Please...."
"Leave! Your presence is an insult to this pack." He interrupted.
I shifted back, my legs shaking. My wolf screamed in pain.
Sarah rushed to my side, holding my arm tightly.
"Selene, let's go. Don't let them see you break"
My eyes filled with tears, as she led me towards the exit. More whispers and murmurs continued as I left the room.
"Pathetic" I heard someone in the crowd say.
"Why would the Moon Goddess pair an Omega with Alpha?" Another whispered.
"She probably did something to deserve this" Another responded.
As we stepped outside, the cold breeze hit me, but it did little to soothe the burning humiliation burning inside me.
"I told you this was a mistake," I said, my voice filled with tears.
"He's an i***t. I know you deserve better than this." Sarah shook her head.
I faked a laugh. "Better? Sarah, better? What's better for someone like me? I've been rejected. Do you know what my means? My wolf......"
I stopped, as a sharp pain went through my chest.
Sarah held me and looked into my eyes. "You'd survive this. You're stronger than you think Selene."
"Well, I don't feel strong! Sarah, I don't feel strong, not even one bit." I shouted, tears flowing down my cheeks.
Before Sarah could respond, a group of wolves approached us. My heart dropped as I recognized Katrina, one of the highest-ranked she-wolves, and Kieran’s most loyal admirer.
"Well, well," Katrina laughed slightly." The little Omega thought she could play Luna".
"Leave us alone," Sarah shouted, stepping in front of me.
Katrina ignored her, focusing on me. "You should be grateful Kieren rejected you. You're not worthy of breathing the same air as him, let alone being his mate"
I will not let her see me cry. I'd not give her that satisfaction.
"Come on, Selene," Sarah said, holding my arm "Let's go."
But Katrina blocked our path. "Not so fast. I think we need to show this omega her place."
Before I could react, Katrina slapped me, but before she could hit me again, we heard someone interrupt.
We also stopped when Kieren appeared, his golden eyes filled with fury.
"Katrina, step back now" he ordered, his voice fierce.
Katrina immediately recoiled. "I was just......."
"Now", he shouted.
Kieran’s eyes shifted to me, and for a moment, something was in his eyes, regret, guilt, or maybe just annoyance.
"Go home, Selene," he said, his tone softer but still firm. "You don't belong here".
Those words broke something inside me. The tears rolled down my eyes more.
"You're right" I whispered. "I don't belong here. But one day you'll regret this, Kieran."
He didn't respond, just watched as Sarah and I walked away.
I didn’t know where I was going, but one thing was certain—I couldn’t stay in the Crescent Moon Pack any longer.
My heart was broken, my spirit crushed, but somewhere deep inside, I felt a spark of determination.
Kieran Black may have rejected me, but this isn’t the end of my story.
