Chapter 3

843 Words
I returned to the cabin later than I expected to. Jade was outside practicing the moves Jackson and I have been teaching her about how to fight. Jackson was presumably off hunting, most likely because of rogues due to the increase in attacks on packs lately and the news of a rogue alpha rising. I walked into the cabin and started making dinner for everyone, cooking the fresh game that Jackson took down yesterday. Jackson is the best cook in our house and comes second to me in hunting and fighting abilities. Jade was the girlier of the two of us and the fashionista. Jade could fight, but lacked the strength that Jackson and I have. She is very fast though, being smaller and more lean, she can also sneak up on anyone with her ability to be so stealthy. I finished cooking dinner when I heard Jackson’s voice outside talking to Jade and they entered the cabin. I smiled and said, “I am the best thing to ever happen to you two.” I was being cheeky and I knew it, but I did just accomplish something that they wouldn’t think I would do. Jade rolled her eyes then replied, “Yes you are, but we are also the best things to ever happen to you. I just hope that Jackson doesn’t end up being your mate because I couldn't handle hearing that all night every night.” She made a fake gagging noise and Jackson hit her arm before growling and saying,”Ember is destined for great things and we see each other as siblings. I know that she will be mated to someone powerful.” I laughed at their ridiculous banter. I haven't found a mate yet and honestly I was okay without one. We all made our plates full of spaghetti and broccoli before we sat at the table and I spoke up. “I have a big surprise for you tomorrow night and hopefully, it will help you to meet the mates that you both want to have. I arranged for us to be able to go into the Winter Moon territory and party at their best bar.’ I took a bite of my spaghetti and looked up at the twins through my lashes. They both looked shocked and quickly it changed to excitement. Jade squealed and Jackson covered his ears. I laughed at her antics as she started bouncing in her seat and talking about what clothes we should all wear tomorrow night. I went to bed soon after dinner and fell asleep before Jade could barge in and keep me awake talking about fashion. The next morning, I woke up to Jackson sitting on the edge of my bed. i looked up at him through my sleepy eyes and he smiled down at me. "I just wanted to see if we were mates before Jade woke up and it turned awkward. I didn't think that we would be, but you never know." He scratched the back of his neck and sighed. I smiled softly at him and hugged his waist. "I knew that we wouldn't be mates, I see you as a brother and I don't think that we would be the best fit as mates. We are definitely too much alike." He laughed, lightening the mood and hopped up saying he was going to make breakfast. I sighed out, I really hoped that we wouldn't be mates as well, because I didn't want our relationship to change into something else. I showered and walked into the kitchen as Jade walked out of her room. I yelled, "Happy Birthday Twins!" and she squealed, hugging me tightly. I may only be 20, but I had to grow up fast, and their birthday was always important to them when they got to celebrate with their parents. I haven't celebrated a birthday in 5 years, so to me they weren't that important anymore. Jackson was making pancakes and sausage for breakfast this morning and it smelled delicious. We all sat down to eat and talked about the plan to lay low tonight, so that we don't start any issues with the pack, since we are rogues in their territory. Before we knew it, we were getting ready to go out and Jade was checking everyone's outfits. Jackson wore a black shirt that hugged his muscles, dark jeans, a black leather jacket, and his black vans. Jade was wearing a purple crop top, a black leather jacket, dark skinny jeans, and black heels, she styled her hair in curls that fell down her back. I wore a black crop top, a black leather jacket, and bell bottom distressed jeans, with my black and white checkered vans that had sunflowers all over them, my hair was pulled into a French braid that went down to my shoulders. We made our way to our jeep and drove to the territory's edge and to the bar. When we exited the jeep I smelled the most amazing mix of forest and cinnamon.
