Chapter 9

1070 Words
Elisa “He fell for it mum; he isn’t that strong as you said he was.” I hear noises coming from outside. My whole body is in pain. I feel so heavy, wait a minute… who am I? My head seems so heavy. I get off the bed slowly, heading for the open door to see who is speaking outside. I decide to just peep, for some reason, I feel like I have to listen in on their conversation, it doesn't make sense to me though. “Wow that’s good my love.” The woman in tattoo says, she looks really tall and not that old to be called mum. “Where is dad?” the woman sitting next to her asks, she is definitely her daughter. She is tall, slender, and beautiful. “He went outside to purchase some things for Elisa, she is almost ready.” The tattooed woman says. And who might this Elisa be? “I am exhausted now, can I see her before I head to my room?” the pretty lady says, pointing towards the door I am standing at. I hurriedly rush back to bed and cover myself up, pretending to be asleep in the process. My instincts are telling me that I am not supposed to trust them, I don’t even know why because I can’t really recall anything. “How is she doing mother?” “She is doing fine, she has taken so long for the transition, though. For almost a year, she has been lying there, like a dead person. But of late her temperature has changed, she will wake up soon.” A year? What was wrong with me? I think that’s why I can’t remember a thing. “I hope she gets up soon though.” One of them says before leaving the room. I took some seconds to finally open my eyes. *** I stayed in bed for a really long time, the room starts to get darker by the minute. I want to go outside, but I am terrified. I gather courage, whatever will be, will be. I get off my bed, open the door, even in the dark I seem to see clearly. I look around the house, contemplating on which way to take. As I was looking around earlier, I didn’t know the house was this big, and so beautiful. It’s so clean, and fresh flowers are kept in different vases along the hallways. I look up and the ceiling, as the walls and the floor is white as well. Accidentally I knock over one of the vases when I am busy admiring the house. It’s more of a palace, though. It causes unnecessary noise, I can't hide now. “Who is there?” I hear a man’s voice approaching. I don’t even have enough time to run and hide, the man stops the moment he sees me, he also has tattoos all over his body. What’s with the tattoos? He looks intimidating, I start walking backwards away from him. Seeing this, his stern look changes and is replaced by a happy one. “You are awake!” he says jovially, rushing towards me and embracing me. I stand there feeling so confused. “Come, the others will be thrilled to see you.” He adds. “Darling, Erika!” he shouts, the duo comes running towards the hallway. “OMG, she is awake!” tattooed woman says, rushing to my side. “Finally.” Erika, I guess, says in a different tone, it isn’t happiness but something entirely different. “Come my darling, why are you looking at us like that baby.” The woman asks, concern written all over her almost tattooed face. She seems so concerned about me, maybe they aren’t bad people as I thought. “Who are you people?” I ask. “What? Don’t you know who we are, my darling?” the woman asks, I can see a hint of tears in her eyes. “Oh Dan, our daughter doesn’t even remember us, darn you Troy, how dare you do this to my daughter?” she starts sobbing. The mention of Troy makes me feel numb all of a sudden, but why. “Daughter, don’t you remember us?” Dan asks. Troy’s name keeps running in my mind now. Did he do this to me? Did he make me forget? “Little sis, don’t you remember me as well.” What’s her name again? Why does she seem to be happy that I am in this state? Even if we are truly sisters, then we definitely don’t get along. I have a feeling that she detests me. “Who is Troy?” I ask. All of them seem to pause and turn to look at me in awe. “Don’t you know him?” Dan asks, I shake my head. I can definitely see a hint of smile on her face. “Come take a seat my darling, you must be exhausted.” Dan takes my hand and guides me to a living room much bigger and wider than the room I was in. this place is gorgeous, I look around, all I can see are photos of the three of them, I don’t seem to be in any of them. Even the big portrait hanged on the wall. Why am I not on them? “Darling my name is Rosa, this is my daughter, I mean your sister Erika and your father Danbury.” Rosa says. Why don’t I feel like they are my parents? “What’s my name then?” I ask, I need to at least know my identity. “Your name is… is…” Dan starts saying, but he hesitates. “Your name is Joy, darling.” Rosa interjects. “Joy? Really.” I ask. “Don’t you believe us my darling, we are your parents you know. We have been petrified to lose you, you have been unconscious for almost a year now.” Rosa continues to cry. Joy… Joy… Joy… I am Joy. I continue to say to myself. “I need to lie down.” I say. My head can't take this anymore, it hurts so badly. Dan scoops me in his arms and takes me to my room, I feel numb, and my mind is hazy. I have been trying to remember all of them, it hurts.
