Chapter 1 Finally, Divorce
"Luke, the CEO of LK, was spotted taking his new flame, Rilea, on a yacht trip the other day. The budding starlet was seen in several intimate moments with him..."
This news was broadcast on every channel.
In no time, it was the talk of the town in Toulouse.
Seated right in the middle of the sofa was a woman in a gray-blue uniform, her hair neatly pinned up, and a pair of glasses perched on her nose. Her appearance was reminiscent of the "old maid" stereotype often seen on TV.
Yet, even with such an outfit, her fair, oval face and dreamy eyes hinted at her undeniable beauty.
She watched the news, her face expressionless.
Sherry, standing nearby, was at a loss for what the mistress was thinking.
They had been married for a year, but her husband had never returned home, and now this kind of news kept surfacing...
"Ma'am, these reporters must be making things up. Don't believe them..." Sherry tried to comfort her.
Sally knew very well if it was true or not.
She didn't respond, just gave a faint smile, picked up the phone from the table, and dialed a number.
The call connected swiftly.
"Hello..."
Before she could speak, a cold voice came from the other end.
"It's me!" Sally said calmly.
"What do you want?" The voice, magnetic yet impatient, replied.
"Are you coming home tonight? I have something to discuss with you," Sally said, clutching the phone.
"Whatever it is, say it over the phone. I really don't want to come back and see you looking like that. It turns my stomach!" Luke said bluntly.
Just thinking about Sally's appearance made him nauseous, killing his appetite!
Hearing this, Sally clenched the phone tighter. "But we are married!"
"Sally—I warn you, stop saying we're married. It's just a business arrangement. Besides, your appearance disgusts me. I can't wait to divorce you!" The voice on the other end shouted vehemently.
Divorce...
"Luke, we've been married for a year. I've been nothing but faithful, never stepping out of line. What gives you the right to divorce me!?" Sally shot back defiantly.
"Because you make me sick to my stomach!"
"You—how dare you!"
"Alright, if that's how you want it, let's get divorced!" Sally declared.
The person on the other end was momentarily stunned. "Did you finally come to your senses!?"
"You're the one who wanted this divorce. I expect you to face the consequences and keep your hands off the Grace family!" Sally stated firmly.
The person, fixated on the idea of divorce, didn't think twice. "Fine, just sign the papers!"
"I'll sign, but you better keep your word!"
"No worries!"
With that, the call abruptly ended.
Sherry, who had been standing nearby, overheard their entire conversation. She approached Sally, "Mistress, are you really going to... get a divorce!?"
Sally turned, her clear eyes glinting with a newfound brightness beneath her glasses. "It's what's best for both of us!"
"But what about Mr. and Mrs. Grace...?"
"He'll take care of it!" Sally interjected smoothly, cutting off Sherry's concerns.
As she was about to head upstairs, a thought struck her. "Sherry, please clear away the dinner. I'm not eating tonight," Sally instructed.
"Mistress, you're not eating?" Sherry asked, surprised.
"No, I just don't have the appetite right now!" With that, Sally dashed upstairs.
She pulled out the divorce papers Luke had prepared ages ago and signed them without a second thought!
As she looked at her signature, a radiant smile spread across Sally's lips.
"Luke, from now on, you're you and I'm me. Our paths split, and we're no longer tangled up!"
*
After signing the agreement, Sally took off her glasses and let her hair fall free from its tight bun.
In that moment, her long, jet-black hair cascaded down, framing her delicate face, revealing an undeniable beauty.
Her face no longer wore that rigid, expressionless mask. Her clear, glassy eyes now sparkled with brilliance.
At last.
She was finally free to leave this place!
With this thought, Sally didn't waste a second. She stood up, swapped her clothes, leaving the old, drab outfit discarded on the bed. Now, she donned a light yellow dress and high heels, looking tall and breathtakingly beautiful.
Sal picked out a few of her favorite outfits, packed her things quickly, and wheeled her suitcase out the door.
Meanwhile, Sherry was tidying up, and when she saw Sal coming down, she looked as if she were seeing a stranger. Was this... was this their young mistress?
Her transformation was nothing short of astonishing.
Sal approached Sherry with a smile, "Sherry!"
"Mis... Young Mistress!" Sherry stammered, finally finding her voice. If Sal hadn't spoken, Sherry might have thought there was someone else in the house.
Sal chuckled, "I've divorced Mr. Makenzie, and I'm moving out today. Thank you for taking care of me all these years!" She nodded at Sherry.
"No, no, it's my duty to look after you. But, Young Mistress, are you really leaving?"
Sal nodded, her fair face lightly adorned with makeup, looking exquisitely beautiful, "Yes!"
"If... if Mr. Makenzie saw you like this now, he might not want the divorce..." Sherry remarked, glancing at Sal.
Hearing this, Sal smiled, "Sherry, please keep this a secret for me!"
She didn't want Mr. Makenzie to know, and that's exactly why she was doing this!
In the end, Sherry nodded, "Alright, make sure you take good care of yourself!" Sherry advised.
"I will, and you too!" Sal said, reaching out to give Sherry a hug. Sherry had cared for her like a mother here, and Sal was deeply grateful for that kindness.
"Alright, Sherry, I'm leaving now!"
"Let me see you off..."
"No need, I've called a car... it's late, you should rest!" Sal replied.
Finally, Sherry nodded, seeing Sal to the door. Sal glanced at the old-fashioned outfit in her hand and tossed it into the trash bin.
Finally, it was time to bid farewell to all of this!
Sal got into the car, and as it drove away, Sherry couldn't help but sigh, thinking to herself that if Mr. Makenzie saw Ms. Grace now, he would surely regret it...
At the airport, Sal pulled her luggage along, looking back at the dazzling night view of A City. Goodbye, A City!
Goodbye, former life!
Leaving her past behind without a second thought, she marched with determination towards the security checkpoint.
