Fight

Yesterday was one hell of an eventful day. Jace didn't say anything once we got home; he simply instructed me to rest. I expected to hear a long series of lectures, but I didn't, which I'm grateful for. It's also strange because I didn't hear anything from my mother when she came over last night to grab some extra clothing for my father. Perhaps Jace didn't tell them. It's a bizarre one. Given how inquisitive and ass-licker that man is and how much he enjoys ruining my life, I never expected him to remain silent about the accident. Either Jace doesn't want them to get concerned, or he's just tired of meddling with my life. To each our own, as I used to say to him, implies that he has his, and I have mine to focus on. "Solene, are you sure you're okay? Perhaps you should excuse yourself today," Anita uttered while serving my food. Unluckily, I got a cold and a mild cough when I woke up this morning. It's very unusual for a kind like me to get sick easily because normal werewolves have a strong immune system...but I guess there's always an exception. "Don't worry, I'm okay. Besides, I am not going to work my ass off, Anita. I'm just supervising those female warriors with their training." I sneezed a couple of times after getting some bread and butter. I don't generally eat heavy meals for breakfast; it's part of my regimen. "Call me if you feel something is off, okay?" I nodded while Anita poured the milk into my glass. I looked at the clock and noticed that it was almost time. There's no way I will be late, or Atticus will say something terrible again. Being the apple of his blurry eyes, about whom he only speaks negatively, the least I could do is to be decent for a month. Proving myself to others is not my cup of tea, but I changed my mind after pondering everything last night. That is for the reason that I volunteered to be my father's substitute, and I must execute his task efficiently so as not to jeopardize his position. "I'm heading out now, Anita." I hugged myself as I exited the house. It was already December, and the first snow of winter had arrived. Yesterday was all sunny, and now the weather looks a bit gloomy and cold. Even with my coat on, I could still feel the freezing atmosphere. My wolf last talked with me around three days ago. As though she's still upset over what happened in the forest three nights before. Tili, my wolf, was more impacted by what happened a year ago between the two of us. She hasn't moved on from her heartbreak. The wound Jace inflicted on us is manageable for me, but not for my wolf, who is probably in grief over her shattered heart. Even though Jace aided us the day before, my wolf has yet to appear. It worries me, but I know Tili better than anybody else. She's one hell of a grumpy pooch. 'I am a wolf, not a dog, you weakling!' I smirk upon hearing her voice inside of me. I sure know her well, what she hates and what she likes. Yet, I raised my brows upon realizing what she used to label me - a weakling? It annoys me, but I'll let it slide for now as I'm not feeling really well. I glanced at my wristwatch again and noticed that I still had five minutes left. I'm like 50 steps away from the training arena, and I already hear noises. "ATTENTION, EVERYBODY. YOUR TRAINING STARTS NOW!" I shouted on top of my lungs after I arrived in the area. I could see Atticus standing on the rostrum, watching me as I approached him. I'm not in the mood to engage with his judgmental demeanor, and I'm too sick to raise a fight with him. As I reached the platform, my head began to hurt, so I sat down. It looks like I will have a fever as well. I tried to massage my temple to ease the pain in my head while observing the warriors. I still had five hours left, but my body felt weary each passing moment. With all the coughing and sneezing, it sure dwindles my energy. "Why do you come here sick? Do you want everyone to get infected with your flu?" the old man began to open his rubbish mouth. "You should go home then. Knowing for a fact that you're old, I might infect you first," I replied dryly. I am all covered with a mask on my mouth. Besides, I am distancing myself at least a kilometer away from him and the rest. "Just go home and don't put us at risk," he added. My blood started to boil again. I said I didn't want to fight with Atticus, but somehow this old man is really getting into my nerves. "What happened with the pack's motto about being invincible and mighty? Yet, a f*****g flu has worried you so much." I wanted to be responsible and tender for once, but it seems like being a good girl isn't suited for me. Some demons always have ways to have my intention tainted, and I'll gladly f**k them off. "What an ill-mannered girl!" Atticus exclaimed after being stunned for a minute. I heaved a sigh of relief when the old man walked away. Finally, the bad luck is gone, and I can have peace. "STOP! NOW WE WILL HAVE A ONE-ON-ONE BATTLE. CHOOSE YOUR OPPONENT." Everyone immediately followed what I said. No side comments or complaints. They do what is being told, and I like that. For real, regular training is boring. I would not know their individual progress without this kind of battle. Now I'll know their individual strength and weakness, and I'm going to make a different training plan for each of the warriors needed for their growth. "WHO WANTS TO GO FIRST?" I squinted my eyes upon seeing three pairs raise their hands. Interesting! I thought none of them would have the guts to fight, especially with their comrades. "Alright, the pair from the right you start." Everyone gathers around, forming a circle, while two warriors are left in the center. "May I know your names?" "Sara and Martha." "Okay, you have 20 minutes to complete the match. Whoever falls down first will be the loser, and the last woman standing will be the winner. START!" On my cue, both of them started the match. Sara started to give Martha a back thrust kick which was being parried by using the slide back roundhouse kick. Everyone made an 'oh' sound to Martha's counter-move. Martha again gives Sara a spinning roundhouse kick and the latter counterattacks using a spin hook kick. Their attacks are on point, and they have complete control over their bodies. Both Sara and Martha seem good at karate as they know what moves to use in every attack. "Times up!" The twenty minutes had ended, and both had shown their strength. No one was held winner and loser as they stood still till the time limit. I realized that today's match would be all about karate or taekwondo, and the next one would be about different battles, such as boxing or jiu-jitsu. As a werewolf, I presume we should not always depend on our wolf form. It is better to know the specific form of fighting styles in terms of self-defense in order for both our human and wolf form to be truly indestructible and mighty, like our packs' motto.
