“You haven’t said two words to me since I picked you up,” Jenny said. “And I noticed you climbed in without an overnight bag. You know, when your dad called and said you weren’t taking it seriously, I wanted to drive over and pack a bag for you. I understand this independence thing, wanting a place of your own, but as your mother, I’m worried. Marcus came knocking this morning after working really, really late and told us what’s been going on. Even though it doesn’t have anything to do with you, I can’t shake this feeling that something bad is coming our way, considering our family seems to attract bad things over and over.
