Chapter 1
Without Me, Let’s See How You Become the Richest Man
Anna Nolan had HIV.
And the person who gave it to her… was her own husband.
On their wedding night, Jason Lincoln coldly sent her to the bed of a man already infected with a deadly disease. What should have been the beginning of a new life became the beginning of Anna’s destruction.
When it was over, Jason didn’t even bother hiding his cruelty.
He threw Anna into a dark, damp basement.
No food.
No water.
No light.
For days, she was left there to starve like an animal waiting for death.
Her condition was even worse than the rats living in the sewers.
Jason stood outside the iron bars of the basement, looking down at her with a satisfied expression.
“Anna Nolan,” he said slowly, mockery dripping from his voice.
“How does it feel to wait for death… alone in a place like this?”
Anna bit her lip until it bled.
Her hands trembled, yet she continued staring at the man before her with eyes filled with hatred.
“Why…?” she asked, her voice shaking.
She truly didn’t understand.
How could the man she had loved for decades turn into a monster like this?
Jason smiled coldly.
“Because of you.”
He looked at her as if she were something disgusting.
“If you hadn’t forced me to change my university application back then, Jessica and I would already be together.”
“Jessica wouldn’t have married that scumbag.”
“And she wouldn’t have been infected with HIV.”
His voice grew colder with every word.
“Do you know how she died?”
“She died miserably.”
Jason’s eyes were filled with hatred as he stared at Anna.
“This is all your fault.”
“So now…”
“I’m just letting you experience what she went through.”
Anna let out a soft laugh.
A bitter laugh.
For more than twenty years, she had always been by Jason’s side.
From their school days to adulthood.
She studied with him, worked tirelessly beside him, and helped him build his career from nothing.
From an ordinary employee… to the richest man in Riverdale City.
She had even undergone stomach surgery several times because she drank so much alcohol while accompanying Jason at business banquets.
But she had never regretted any of it.
As long as Jason succeeded, she believed all her sacrifices were worth it.
But in the end…
The moment Jason reached the peak of success, the first thing he did was send Anna to her death.
It turned out that all this time…
He had never forgotten Jessica Cole.
The girl with terrible grades.
The girl who used to fight with delinquent boys.
The lazy girl who never took school seriously.
Jessica.
Back then, Anna had only wanted to save Jason.
She was afraid Jessica would drag him into a ruined future.
Wherever Jason went—school, vacations, or any activity—Anna was always by his side.
They had even planned to enter the best graduate program together.
But one day, Anna discovered something shocking.
Jason had secretly changed his university application.
He wanted to attend the vocational school where Jessica studied.
Anna had no choice but to intervene.
She temporarily moved Jason’s mother away and changed the application form back.
She thought she had saved Jason’s future.
But now she realized…
In Jason’s eyes, she had only been an obstacle.
“Jason Lincoln,” Anna said hoarsely.
“You’re truly blind.”
“Jessica got infected because of her own reckless life!”
“Do you really think she’s some pure and innocent woman?”
“Do you know how many men she’d already been with in high school?”
Jason’s expression changed instantly.
His eyes burned with rage.
“Shut up!”
He grabbed a small knife from the table beside him.
Without hesitation—
He stabbed it straight into Anna’s chest.
“Don’t insult Jessica!”
“Anna Nolan… die!”
Blood flowed from Anna’s chest.
Yet strangely…
She wasn’t afraid.
Instead, she felt relieved.
If life could start over again…
She would never stop Jason.
She only wanted to see—
Without her…
Could Jason still become the richest man?
With the last of her strength, Anna pulled the knife out of her chest.
Then—
She thrust it toward Jason.
If she had to die…
Jason shouldn’t get to enjoy the wealth she had built alone.
Jason’s pupils widened in shock.
He quickly grabbed Anna’s throat.
How could a woman who was almost dead still manage to hurt him?
Suddenly—
Ding!
The sound of the school bell rang.
Anna opened her eyes, gasping for breath.
Her body was still trembling from the pain she felt before dying.
But when she looked around—
She froze.
She was sitting in a classroom.
On the blackboard were large words:
“30 Days Until the Final Exam.”
Afternoon sunlight streamed through the window.
And standing in front of her was a teenage boy she knew all too well.
Jason Lincoln.
Still wearing the uniform of Riverdale No.1 High School.
Jason looked stunned as well.
He stared at his own hands.
No wounds.
No blood.
Then he burst into laughter.
“Hahaha!”
“I’ve been reborn!”
His eyes locked onto Anna.
“Perfect.”
“I can finally be with Jessica again.”
“In this life…”
“I won’t let you stand in our way.”
A chill ran down Anna’s spine.
She lowered her gaze.
On her desk lay the university application form that the teacher had just returned for revision.
A faint smile appeared on her lips.
“Congratulations, Jason Lincoln.”
“Since you’ve been reborn too…”
“From today onward, our paths are different.”
“I won’t interfere in your life anymore.”
Jason sneered.
“You’d better keep your word.”
Anna raised her head.
Her eyes were ice-cold.
“Don’t worry.”
“This time, I also want to see…”
“Without me.”
“Without Anna Nolan.”
“Without the prestigious degree I’ll obtain…”
“What will you use…”
“To become the richest man?”
