Henry raised his brow, Interested in what bogus excuse I came up with. "Vanessa called me," I said, he nodded. "Vanessa called you." He repeated. "Yes. And she told me to come over as quick as I can, so I did." I said and he nodded again. "She told you to leave school to come to the arcade." He said. I nodded "Why'd you leave, Brooke?" He asked. I sighed, "I didn't want to deal with the weirdness on my own. I couldn't handle it and I needed an escape. I was planning on going back to school." I said. It's true, I did plan on going back to school. "Brooklyn, it's nearly four in the afternoon. School ended an hour ago." He said. My eyes widen in shock, "Holy fuck." I mumbled as I pulled my phone out of my pocket. He's right.
I mumbled an apology and he chuckled, "I'm not mad at you for ditching last minute ... I'm just a little bummed out that you didn't call me up so we could hang out at our favorite place together. Martha told me you were here." He said. I turned back and squinted at the door to find Mrs. Armstrong walking towards us with a smile on her face yet again. "Martha!" Henry beamed "Henry my boy." She beamed greeting my brother with a hug. A car parked next to Henry's car and it caught my attention as Henry and Mrs. Armstron caught up. The door of the car opened and I immediately turned my back and faced my brother. He looked down at me with a confused smile. "Are you okay?" He asked and I nodded quickly "You promised ice cream, remember?" I said rapidly. An arm rested on my shoulder and my body tensed upon contact. "Princess, you didn't tell me you had a boyfriend." I heard him say along with the high pitched voice I've grown to hate, "Why are you touching her!" I sighed in defeat as my brother looked between Chris and me in confusion. Obviously trying to connect the dots as Mrs. Armstrong bid goodbye and headed back into her Arcade.
"You want to get your hands off her? She doesn't look comfortable with you touching her dude." My brother said to him. Chris chuckled and pat my shoulder, "I think she's fine with it. Aren't you, Princess?" Chris asked me. I raised a brow and stared at my brother who was still trying to connect the dots. For a guy who boasts about being a goddamn genius, he is pretty f*****g stupid. "How come you never told me about this guy?" Chris asked Henry raised his brow in confusion. "You didn't tell him about me, Brooke?" Henry asked, and the word Chris used before finally clicked in his head as his face morphed into pure disgust. "Dude get your hands off of my sister. Boyfriend? Seriously of all things?" Henry said. Christian's hand drop from my shoulder and he coughed, "Sister?" He repeated, "Dude yes. God." Henry replied. "You should know that she can't get a boyfriend with that face of hers." I heard Sophia say somewhere in the background.
Something about her voice and just herself, in general, pisses me off. I turned to her and glared at her, "Can you be a waste of valuable oxygen somewhere else please? Thanks." I snapped at her. My brother chuckled before pushing me towards the passenger seat, She stared at me in shock before looking at Christian who just kind of glared at me but not really? I don't know. He wore a strange look on his face. "Ice cream, remember," Henry added. I got into the passenger seat and looked out the window to find Sophia still glaring at me. I waved and smiled then flicked her off before Henry started the car and pulled out of the parking lot.
"Now you really have a lot of explaining to do."
_______
We sat down in the diner and my brother stared at me, waiting for me to explain what in the hell happened back at the arcade. I sighed, "We're nearly a month into school, we have to go all the way to the beginning of the school year for you to understand what in the f**k is happening to me." I said. He leaned in, Ready to listen to my ridiculous yet very true story.
"His aunt is the principal of the school. Because I refused to graduate last year she made my senior year a bit 'easier' for me by reducing the number of traditional classes I had to sit in and replaced them with 'tutoring' Chris, the dude in the parking lot. I'd still be receiving my college credits for this and so will he since he's taking college classes too. for the first two weeks, he wanted nothing to do with me, repeatedly telling me to stay out his way and to leave him alone outside of tutoring where'd we'd have to spend time with each other mandatorily." I stopped for a breather and he waited for me to continue, so I did.
"After a while, Chris started to break his own rule and started bugging me. Sitting at my table and throwing water balloons at me randomly. I don't even know how he got the water balloons either. He just had them. I met two of his friends and to be honest, I'm more fond of them than I am of him. I think it was when I was surrounded by him and his friends that I met that girl you saw in the parking lot. I met her in the bathroom and summer told me that she was dating Chris and that she's loaded and could end my social life in school. Something about it being social suicide going up against her but she annoys the living s**t out of me. More than Chris does and honestly, I have nothing to lose so I chew her out every chance I get. I'm not a fan of Christian. I just have to put up with him. I don't think he understands that even though I tell him that every time." I ended with a sigh.
He raised his brow, "And it's barely the first month. You have about nine more left." He chuckled. I groaned as I realized that "Oh my god." I mumbled, "You should've bit the bullet and graduated with me." Henry said. "But I didn't want to leave Summer on her own." I whined, "And like what about homecoming and prom." I said "She would've been fine and you could've spoken to the principal to accommodate you for those days. You know for someone who brags about being the smartest in the house, you really are a dumb ass." He said and I rolled my eyes. "Shut up."
