Chapter Four

1304 Words
Sophia Miles. I finally got some information on her thanks to Summer. She's the most popular girl in the school, her dad owns a very big and successful business. She's dating Chris ... which was unsurprisingly obvious AND his father and her father are business partners. So that means she holds some sort of power and can, in fact, ruin my life with a single sentence. Ain't that some s**t. I grabbed my tray of food and went outside to my loner table. Yes, I call my table the loner table, For the past week no one has bothered me. That kind of surprised me because weeks before I ran into Sophia the trio would not leave my side. I was just getting comfortable with Jaden and Dylan not so much with Christian, He still bugged me every chance he got but still.  I was adjusting to the sudden change and then on Monday everything switched, I thought it was for a day or two but it's Friday of the following week and aside from tutoring, They haven't annoyed me let alone look in my general direction. Which I should probably be thankful for since I wanted nothing to d with them at first but I can't help but feel kind of hurt. The popular trio; Chris, Dylan, and Jaden all sat at the cliche popular table along with Sophia and her little posse.  I pulled out my phone and sighed ... Lunch is going to be the longest free period today. I sat down and picked at my food ... bored, I wasn't hungry. I just need an excuse to leave school early today. As I was brainstorming the most perfect lie someone sat down next to my chair. "Brooke." I heard him say. At first, I was shocked but I knew that since he was here trouble wasn't too far behind. I rolled my eyes "Leave." I said, "You look lonely I'm just being a nice friend." He said, "We're not friends, Christian." I said looking at him. "You wound me," he said placing his hand over his heart. "Seriously leave," I said looking over at his table, Jaden and Dylan were both smiling at me. Jaden shot me a wink whereas Dylan, Childish Dylan stuck his tongue out at me. I held back a smile and saw Sophia get up with a frown on her face. Just great, Now his girlfriend is coming over "Do you want to kill me?" I hissed in annoyance "What?" He asked with what almost seemed like a genuinely concerned look on his face. His girlfriend stood behind him with a sick smile on her face. "Hey, Brooklyn right?" She asked and I nodded slowly. She scanned my outfit before smirking. "I love your outfit." She said.  I rolled my eyes in annoyance, I don't like her and I know with Christian around she's going to be up my ass for the rest of the year. I also didn't need a compliment from her especially since I know she was lying. "See now I gotta burn it," I said then sighed. Her friendly demeanor dropped when I said that and her b***h side showed "I don't like you." She stated and I chuckled a bit then shrugged "I guess we're in the same boat 'cause I don't like you either." I said getting up "Didn't I tell you to stay away from Chris?" She said as if Chris wasn't sitting on the floor next to her feet. "You did and as the dog I am in your head I obeyed, I didn't call him over." I shrugged. She opened her mouth to speak but closed it when she had nothing else to say. "Nice talk. Maybe next time it'll last longer. Oh and make sure your clapbacks are better than mine or else you'll get cooked." I smiled grabbing my belongings and walked towards the parking. "Bitch." I heard her say. I turned around and gave her a wink "That I am." I smirked before walking towards Henry's car. He finally let me have it and I can finally use it to drive places other than school and home. I looked back to find Christian wearing a confused look on his face, "You're leaving early?" Christian called out "Yes." I simply answered as I unlocked the car. He stood there, the confused look not leaving his face as I got into the car. I saw Sophia start to chew him out and his face fell, his face went blank for a while before an emotion plastered on his face again. Annoyance. I chuckle at this and backed out of the parking space.  _____ I ended up at the local arcade, I have a weird friendship with the owner of the arcade. I would've had went straight home but I wasn't really ready to end my day just yet. I sat at the bar eating a hotdog and drank my strawberry milkshake as I listened to my friend, Vanessa talked about how college was treating her. "I mean, you would think that because it's college this woman would treat us like f*****g adults or something equivalent to that but no. This woman snaps over the smallest of things and then rants about it for the rest of the class time. Then she refuses to go over the lesson were supposed to learn the class before because we were the ones who wasted the class time not her." Vanessa ranted from the other side of the bar.  My eyes widen in horror, "That sounds like a complete nightmare." I said, "Oh it is, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire classes or even all of her classes are failing because she can't adult." Vanessa said with an eye roll. "Well, at least you're not in my situation." I mumbled, She chuckled "I'm glad I don't have a target on my back." She said this time I rolled my eyes. Her mom came into view with a bag and a smile on her face. "Brooke, I wasn't expecting you today." Mrs. Armstrong said. I mirrored her smile, "Honestly, neither was I." I replied with a chuckle. She gave me the small bag of tokens and nodded towards the arcade games, "Have at it, darling." She smiled. I thanked her and made my way towards my favorite corner of the arcade. I loved every game here and I've been around to watch everything change but this corner always stayed the same ... Six games. Guitar hero, Some movie pinball machines, Pac Man, Skee Ball, Pac Man Battle Royale, Super Shot, and the Ghost Busters' game.  Of course, some games required more than one player. I was usually here with Henry and whenever we were here we'd get competitive and even place bets on the games ... Sometimes staying until closing. But because I'm by myself today I stuck to the games I could play on my own like Crossy Road or packman, skee ball the list goes on ... All while staying my corner.  After a while, I returned to the bar where Vanessa was waiting, "You're done already?" She asked in shock as she glanced at her watch. "Yeah, I need to head home before my mom gets suspicious." I chuckled. She nodded understandingly. "Bring your friend next time." She suggested, I laughed "Summer hates the arcade." I said, "But she loves our food." Vanessa said. I nod "That is true." I replied then waved her goodbye as I headed out the double doors. I looked into the parking lot and at Henry's car to find Henry leaning on the hood of his car with his arm folded over his chest. As I approached him, I could see the look of disapproval resting on his face. "I can explain."
