Chapter Twelve

1262 Words
Lunch came around quicker than usual today and as much as I wanted to sit in the library, Mercedes wasn't going to let me. Through this whole party drama mess Jaden, Mercedes, and Dylan stood by me. I've been giving my brother and Summer space because their 'friendship' was affected by what went down that annoying night. I dropped my bag at the table and sighed, "You need a tougher skin," I heard Mercedes chuckle as she stood on the other side of the table, I rolled my eyes. "I feel like it's my fault," I said. A lot of what happened could've been avoided. She c****d her head before jingling her keys in my face, "Arcade?" She suggested and I gave her a small smile, "Are you trying to get my mind off of it?" I asked and she shrugged "More like I want to whoop your ass in a few games but hey perspectives." She said as I got up from the table. The cafeteria started to fill up with students and for some reason, I felt like everyone was staring at me ... pointing at me and whispering things about me. I followed Mercedes through the emergency exit and made our way to her ride, The purple motorcycle. "You have an extra helmet?" I asked her and I adjusted the straps on my bag, She shook her head. "You're the only person I've ever let ride with me. You can use mine though," She said as she handed me her black helmet. I wore a small smile on my face as I put the helmet on. She swung her leg over the seat and turned to me, "You ready?" She asked as I swung my leg over the seat. When I nodded she smile and the motorcycle came alive. I wrapped my arms around her waist and rested my head on her back as we left the school's parking lot. The world seemed to be moving in slow motion as Mercedes sped down the roads weaving in and out of traffic. It almost felt unreal. I should probably be scared of how fast we were going but for some reason, I wasn't. In fact, I felt relaxed. Everything looked like something out of an art museum. We started to slow down and my favorite place started to come into view. I wore a huge smile on my face as we came to a complete stop in the parking lot of the arcade. "So, who's paying for the tokens?" She asked as I took the helmet off. I raised my brows "Who said we're paying for anything?" I asked with a chuckle as I got off of the bike. "I didn't bring you here to rob anyone Brooke," She said in a joking manner. I shook my head and waited for her to turn off the motorcycle. I faced the arcade and said "I bet I'll whoop your ass in Lara Croft," I said and I heard Mercedes laugh "Keep dreaming," She said. We walked into the arcade and was immediately ambushed by Vanessa and her mother. Mercedes wore a confused but defensive move while I laughed. "You guys didn't put a tracker on me did?" I teased. Vanessa rolled her eyes, "No dummy, We have camera's you know." She said. I turned to Mercedes who was still pretty confused. "Vanessa, Mrs. Armstrong this is my friend, Mercedes," I said introducing Mercedes to my second family. Mrs. Armstrong rolled her eyes, "You can call me Martha, It's about time Brooklyn brought her friends around." She said and Mercedes raised her brows "Nice to meet you both," Mercedes said with a small smile on her face. Vanessa pointed at the bar and said, "Tokens at food at the bar." I smirked at Mercedes who seemed to be caught off guard. "Your boss is cool with you giving people free tokens?" Mercedes asked, Martha shrugged, "Call it a special. I consider little Brooke one of my own." she said before going to her office. Mercedes and I followed Vanessa to the bar. "Martha owns the arcade, We're fine," I whispered to her as we sat down. Mercedes let out an "Oh" and I chuckled. "So how's school going?" Vanessa asked. I groaned and this time Mercedes chuckled, "It's f*****g hell." I said. "That girl still giving you problems?" Vanessa asked. "It's like she had this stick up her ass that is impossible to remove. I don't even look her way and she's doing something to make my life a living hell." I complained and puffed my cheeks. Vanessa raised a brow, "Is she the reason why you're not in school right now?" she asked and Mercedes raised her hand, "Yes and no, but I'm more of the reason why though." Mercedes said and I shrugged, "Yup." I said as I grabbed the bag of tokens. "The first three wins is the champion of Lara Croft," I said to Mercedes. Vanessa chuckled and Mercedes squinted at me, "Oh you're f*****g on!" She exclaimed. I ran towards the game with the biggest smile on my face, I'm happy. I like this. We reached the game and for the next three hours, we yelled shoved and teased each other as we played the games in the arcade. At one point we found one of the photo booths and decided to take multiple photos in which Vanessa and Martha both made a cameo in. The arcade started to fill up with middle and high schoolers so Mercedes and I took our leave. "Where to now?" I asked as we reached her bike, "We can meet Jaden and Dylan at Bob's Burgers." She suggested and I shrugged,  "I could eat," I said as I grabbed her helmet. I swung my legs over the seat and wrapped my arms around her waist as I felt the bike come alive again. We weaved down a few streets before we reached the fast-food restaurant, I hopped off the bike and made my way inside. The boys, Jaden and Dylan, were sitting in a booth. Dylan was singing some song to random guests who seemed to be extremely assumed by it. His eyes landed on me and the biggest smile rested on his face as he approached me, "Excuse me, I might drink a little more than I should tonight," He started as he danced around me.  I let out a laugh as he continued to sing the old banger. Mercedes walked in and laugh at Dylan, "Seriously?" She said and his focus went from me to her. He sang to her as I made my way to Jaden who wore an amused look, "How's the serenade? You liked it?" He teased and I rolled my "It was hilarious," I said looking back only to find Dylan on the table pointing at Mercedes and doing a body roll. Jaden chuckled and shook his head, "He's been at this for an hour. He's lucky his mother owns this place or else we'd been f****d a while ago." Jaden said shaking his head. Mercedes stood with her hands crossed over her chest, watching him being stupid. A woman who I could only assume was Dylan's mother walked out of the staff room and turned off the radio and shot Dylan a glare, "Thanks mom, Now everyone can fall in love with my voice," He said and everyone in the restaurants laughed. I turned to Jaden who answered my question before I could ask, "This is a daily routine for the both of him,"
