Chapter Fifteen

"Munchkin? I heard my mom yell from downstairs, I was in the process of packing everything I needed for the weekend in a duffel bag when I paused. "Yes?" I yelled back but she didn't say anything. I shrugged and finished packing my second duffel bag. I grabbed both bags and made my way downstairs. To my surprise, Mercedes was sitting on the couch chatting with my mom. "Finally," Mercedes said smiling at me as I walked towards the door. "You never told me you were friends with Mercedes Walker," Mom said to me, "Sorry mommy, it must've slipped my mind," I said with a small chuckle. "She's in good hands Nina," Mercedes said and my mom rolled her eyes playfully. "Nothing illegal, I know where you live Walker," she warned and this time Mercedes rolled her eyes. "I'm not stupid, I'm with my lawyer's kid. Doing anything illegal with this one would be the last thing I do," Mercedes said following me out of the door. "Be safe, Call me if there are any issues." I heard my mom yell as the door started to close. Mercedes turned to me with a smile, "Ready?" She asked and I shrugged. "As ready as I'll ever be, I guess," I said. She popped her trunk open and tossed my bags in before closing it. "How long is the drive?" I asked and she shrugged, "Forty-five minutes," She said as we got into her car. She pulled out of the driveway and we were on our way to the cabin. The drive was smooth, I leaned my head on the window listening to the music blasting through the speakers as I watched buildings go by. There was no conversation but the silence was comfortable. I leaned my head against the window and took in the change of scenery as we neared the cabin. It looked peaceful until we came to a complete stop and Dylan's excited face came into view. I held back a sigh and chuckled, I signed up for this. I opened the door and braced for impact as his body slammed into my full force. He lifted me off the ground and I laughed, "Put me down loser!" I gasped as he walked towards the modern cabin. I heard Mercedes chuckle as Jaden helped her with our belongings. Dylan was singing some song as he practically hauled me towards the front door of the cabin. I didn't fight it anymore, I just let him do it. Everything felt a bit normal. Dylan was back to his annoying ways and nobody did anything about it. "And on and on we'll go!" He sang loudly, Mercedes snorts as she walked passed us, "Singing is not for you," She commented as Dylan finally put me down. Dylan poked his tongue out and she rolled her eyes as she placed the bags down. I took the chance to look around and smiled a bit. It was a mix of modern and luxurious and it looked amazing. I heard a clap, "Alright, if anyone needs me I'm in my room." I heard Mercedes said. I raised my brows, "Wait, you guys picked out rooms already?" I asked, we literally just got here. Jaden shrugged, "We already established our rooms when my parents bought the place two years ago, lucky for you though there's one unclaimed room upstairs and to the left." He said as Mercedes escaped to her room. I nodded and looked at my bags sitting next to his foot. Of course, they had rooms picked out. I was the new one after all.  Jaden offered to give me a mini-tour and a brief rundown on things they did at the cabin over the weekend. We reached the end of the tour and stood in front of the door to my new room. "Thank you," I said with a smile and he shrugged it off, "It was no problem. How are you?" He asked and I chewed on my bottom lip before sighing, "Honestly, I'm feeling a lot better. I've fixed things between my brother and I. He finally got with my best friend despite the whole situation so I'm feeling great. Thank you for being there for me." I told him and he laughed, "It was no problem, I hate seeing you down. It feels weird, you know?" He said with a small smile.  I mirrored his smile and opened the door to my new room, "Totally." I replied. He handed me my bags and I walked into my room alone. I placed my bags on the bed and looked at the digital clock on the nightstand, It's only twelve. As I unpacked I heard what sounded like scratching at my door. I stopped unpacking and went to the door. When I opened it, A black cat walked in and hopped on my bed. I looked down the hall and back at my bed where the black cat was curled up in one of the pillows.  Mercedes came into view, she was looking down the hallway when she made eye contact with me, "Have you seen Mitsu?" She asked and I raised my brow as I looked back in my room, "Mitsu wouldn't happen to be a black cat would it?" I asked and she smiled. "Yeah, she's not really friendly, I was going to feed her but she disappeared." She replied and I shrugged, "She seems pretty friendly to me, She's on my bed if you still want to feed her." I replied. Mercedes seemed shocked when I added the small detail, she chuckled and shook her head, "If she's comfortable in your bed that means she likes you. She knows where her food is. She'll eat when she's hungry." She replied before blowing me a kiss and disappearing into her room.  I turned back to find the cat, Mitsu curled in a ball near my bag of clothes. I walked over to my bag and finished unpacking. As I finished, I turned Mitsu who was staring at me. I offered her a smile and laid back on the bed. For a while, she did nothing but stared at me. I reached to grab my phone when Mitsu leaped into my lap. I grabbed my phone and looked down at her. I could hear her purring as she got comfortable in my lap. I raised my hand and she followed the movement of my hand as I rested it on her. I slowly petted her and she purred a bit louder. I chuckled, "I like you too," I mumbled and I heard someone cough. I looked at the door to find Chris leaning in the doorway, "Hey," He said and I raised my brows, "Hi," I replied carefully. He sighed and shoved his hands in his pockets. "I thought about what you said," He said. What did I say? I've been avoiding him as much as I could and kept our conversations down to a minimum. "Uhm, what did I say?" I asked and he raised his brows, "I shouldn't have apologized to you on Sophia's behalf." he said and I shrugged.  "I thought we were past that?" I asked turning my attention to Mitsu who was still purring in my lap. "I broke up with her," He told me and I raised my brows when he said that. I don't see why he felt like he had to tell me. I didn't care about his relationship and I barely cared about him. "I never asked. I don't care," I shrugged. He sighed, "I know you do. So I'm letting you know that she's not someone you have to worry about anymore," He said. I glared at him, "We can't even call ourselves friends. Why would you even care about what happens between myself and Sophia?" I asked. He gave me a look, "Because it's my fault." He replied, "At least you know, Now can you leave? I'm actually having a bit of fun when you're not around," I replied. I turned my attention away from him and back on Mitsu. "Look, I want to fix whatever is broken between us," He said and I looked at him and scrunched my brows. "Why?" I asked. He stared at me for a while before running his hands over his face and looking up at the ceiling. "Because I actually like you, Brooklyn. And I've realized how bad I f****d up."
