Royal returns

Cal’s PoV I woke up in the night, my warrior training instantly kicks in as I strain for the reason- usually a noise signifying potential danger. But it slowly dawned on mr that the room was illuminated by a strange silvery light, it was almost shimmering. As I looked round for the source of it I nearly screamed in shock when I saw midi’s wolf’s eyes wide open and glowing a bright white. She was motionless, it took me a second to be able to move after the shock. Hesitantly I reached out to touch her, but as soon as I did I my vision was taken over by something like a dream. I was in the woods and surrounding me was what appeared to be the whole wolf kingdom, ‘Tonight is Midi’s first pack run!’ A man at the front announced. I recognised him instantly as the one who claims to rule rogue kingdom. Everyone transformed into their wolves with excited yelping and howls. The rogue fighters were a gnarly bunch, aggressive and bristly, but the rogue kingdom also contained a surprising number of normal looking wolves, and the atmosphere was almost similar to a normal pack run; excitement at the wildness of letting your wolves free. I scanned round for Midi and she was there by the leader, who had now transformed into a massive role with gleaming red eyes. She looked nervous but he nuzzled her hand and she too transformed into our queen. The rogues were largely too busy hyping themselves up to notice this new jet black wolf, with her golden eyes betraying her birth right... but the leader noticed. I watched him gaze at her intently before throwing his head back and howling at the moon. His look had a growl resonating from my chest but it was clear that no one here could see or here me. The wolves joined in then as one they raced towards the forest. Miri was skipping along at the front, her wolf looked almost gleeful. The leader suddenly upped his speed - easily distancing himself from all the others apart from Midi, who matched his speed with ease, welcoming the challenge. Watching them together was something I hadn’t expected. Midi was so at ease in his company, and he so focussed on her. My chest felt tight watching their happiness. Once the other wolves were out of sight the leader veered to the left up a small creek, splashing happily through the water as midi skipped along behind him. He slowed and she did too, my heart now beating a million tunes a minute fearing what I could see coming. In one swift lunge he grabbed her by the back of the neck and positioned himself behind, she seemed frozen in shock as he prepared to mate with her. ‘Nooo!’ I was shouting, I tried to run over put I had no control of my body, all I could do was watch. With a swift decisive roll Midi’s wolf wrenched herself free and rolled away from him before sprinting back the way she’d come faster than I’d seen any wolf move. Red drops of blood in the snow showed how hard he must have gripped her neck. He picked himself up with a shake, watching her run but seemingly decided against following chase. The vision faded and I was back in the cave, but now looking straight into the eyes of Midis wolf, golden and staring back at me. We have to get you out of here. It’s too late, he’s here. She replied, I blinked in confusion at her- he’s where? But then I heard a knock from the door.
