CHAPTER ONE
Chapter One - About last night
Ava
I woke up in an unfamiliar bedroom. The gray walls and high ceilings bore no resemblance to my cramped dorm room. I tried to move, but my body met resistance. Confused, I turned to see what was holding me back—and froze when I saw Ethan lying next to me.
Ethan. The notorious bad boy of Mindfield College.
How did I end up in bed with him on the last night of college after avoiding him my entire university career?
Carefully, I slid out of the bed, my heart racing. I scanned the room for my clothes, gathering everything I could find—except my panties. Cursing under my breath, I tiptoed toward the door, hoping to escape unnoticed.
As I stepped into the hallway, I was greeted by the most beautiful house I’d ever seen. But I didn’t linger to admire the view. I slipped out of the main entrance and found my little Picanto waiting in the driveway. Climbing into the driver’s seat, last night’s events flooded back to me.
**Last Night**
The party was in full swing when Ava walked in with her best friend, Hannah. Katie was supposed to join them, but she’d gone MIA after their last exam. Ava was a bit worried about her, but tonight was supposed to be her last night to let loose as a college student. Adulthood was calling, and her internship at *Crown and Thread Fashion House*—her dream company—was just around the corner. For one night, Ava wanted to relax, have fun with her friends, and maybe spend time with her boyfriend, Tim, who, strangely enough, was nowhere to be found.
She and Hannah headed straight to the bar, ordering drinks to kick off the night.
Six shots of tequila later, the girls were wasted, giggling uncontrollably. It wasn’t until they went to find the bathroom that Ava realized she still hadn’t seen or heard from Tim. The two split up to search, and Ava wandered into a quiet room—only to freeze in horror.
There, on the bed, were Katie and Tim.
Her best friend and her boyfriend.
They were so lost in each other they didn’t even notice her standing there. Ava’s heart shattered. Without a word, she stumbled out of the room, barely able to see through her tears.
She had only taken a few steps down the hall when she bumped into someone. Looking up to apologize, she found herself face-to-face with Ethan, the one person she had sworn never to talk to again after he humiliated her in freshman year.
“Want to take your mind off whatever it is you’re going through?” he asked, his face unreadable.
Ava nodded, desperate for any kind of distraction.
She hadn’t expected him to pin her against the wall and kiss her. It wasn’t just a kiss—it was raw, hungry, and consuming. Stunned at first, Ava tried to keep up, but Ethan was a pro. His large hands cupped her face as he devoured her lips.
A car honking behind me snapped me back to the present. Shaking off the memory, I pressed the gas and headed back to campus.
**What have I done?**
I reached my dorm in record time. Opening the door, I was met by a worried-looking Hannah sitting on my bed.
“Girl, where have you been? I’ve been worried sick!” she said, jumping to her feet.
“Sorry, long story,” I mumbled, hoping to avoid the conversation.
“Not good enough. It’s not like you to vanish from a party like that.”
With a sigh, I sat down and told her everything—starting from the moment we got separated.
“Wait—you’re telling me Katie was sleeping with Tim?” Hannah asked, her voice laced with anger.
I nodded, my throat tight.
“That snake! She better stay far away from us, or I can’t promise to keep my hands to myself. But hold on—you said you bumped into Ethan? What happened there?”
I hesitated, scratching my head. “About that…”
After the kiss, Ava’s body felt like it was on fire. She had never experienced anything like it—not even with Tim.
“Wanna take this somewhere else?” Ethan asked, his voice low and confident.
She nodded, unable to speak.
“I’d suggest my house, but I came with a friend. Any ideas?”
After a moment, Ava finally whispered, “We could use my car.”
Ethan grinned, stealing another kiss before leading her to the parking lot.
The drive to Ethan’s house was a blur, with Ava still reeling from the events of the night. Once they entered his room, the reality of what she was about to do hit her. The betrayal of Tim and Katie replayed in her mind like a bad movie.
“Are you sure about this?” Ethan’s voice broke through her thoughts.
“Yes,” she replied, her voice shaky but firm.
Ethan kissed her again, this time slower and more deliberate. Ava felt herself melting into him, letting go of all the pain and anger. Clothes were discarded, and soon they were tangled in his sheets.
For the first time that night, Ava felt wanted.
Back in the dorm, Hannah stared at me in disbelief.
“You mean you slept with Ethan? The Ethan who’s hooked up with half the college?”
I nodded, feeling my cheeks burn.
Hannah’s shock quickly turned into a smirk. “Well, at least you got your revenge. You know Tim and Ethan are cousins, right? I can’t wait to see Tim’s face when he hears about this.”
“No one’s telling him anything,” I said firmly. “This stays between us. I’ve already texted Tim that we’re over.”
Hannah raised an eyebrow but didn’t push further.
“I’m leaving for London tomorrow anyway,” I added, standing up to pack for my new life. “All of this will be in the past soon.”
