Chapter Twenty-Seven Welcome Home Don did not consider himself particularly superstitious, but the day had started far too well. Little David had slept through the night, Don’s best suit had retained its freshly pressed appearance, and even the morning newspaper had been delivered on time. The journey north on the A34 had been without incident and, on checking his watch, Don realised that he was likely to arrive at Thames Valley Police headquarters much too early for his appointment. It was all much too good to last, and Don was not at all surprised to find himself heading into stationary traffic shortly after he left the main by-pass and had negotiated the notorious Peartree Roundabout.
