Chapter 1
Olivia Wilson, a “twenty-eight” year old brunette, sat across from Connor McCoy, the CEO of Mega World conglomerate. She was summoned from her workplace, where she worked as a waitress. She felt like the walls were caving in on her as she faced him. He looked at her in a calculating way, as if she were just a puppet in a game he already figured out. She fidgeted under his intense gaze, her heart racing like crazy. This guy wasn’t just some billionaire, he was the personification of power, a force that had built an empire from the ground up. And now, that same force felt like it was about to crush her. Connor broke the awkward silence, his voice smooth and threatening. “You really think you have a choice?” He leaned back in his chair, his fingers pressed together like every move he made was part of a well-rehearsed script. There was something so cold about him. Olivia felt the command and authority in his voice and fidgeted hard. She swallowed hard, trying to keep her hands stable. Sweat trickled down her face and drenched the upper part of her dress. She felt small under his gaze. Her heart was thumping loudly, and she could hear it, but she couldn't stop it. “ I am just a poor waitress”, she started to say but was cut short by his hand gesture. He pushed a piece of paper towards her. It was the contract. It was practically dangling off the table, just waiting for her to grab it. The signature line loomed up at her, bold and scary. “Sign it,” Connor insisted, his eyes hard and penetrating. “If you refuse, everything you fought for, the life you've protected all these years will all disappear”, he told her with a smirk on his face. Her breath lodged in her throat. At first, she didn’t get it; his words were like a faint reflection. But then it hit her, she understood what was at stake. The last thing she needed was for her secrets to come to light. The things she had buried deep down, desperately trying to keep from the world, were now close to surfacing and destroying her. Connor had it all figured out. He knew the secrets from her past, things she thought no one could ever know or reveal. Her body went motionless as memories washed over her, unwelcome and unwanted. The sweat trickled down her neck and tears threatened to blur her vision. Anxiety knotted in her chest. She shut her eyes for a moment, trying to breathe through the panic. She couldn’t afford to lose it now, not when everything she held dear; her safety, her quiet little life, was in jeopardy. “You don’t really get it, do you?” Connor continued, his tone dropping but still laced with danger. “This is the easiest way for you to protect yourself. Sign it, and you keep your secrets safe. Don’t, and I’ll make sure they’re out there for the world to see. All of them.” His words felt like daggers, each one stabbing and slicing deeper. There was no escaping this guy. No bargaining. Not with the kind of advantage he had over her. “I…I don’t have a choice, do I?” she managed to whisper, her voice barely above a shaking breath. Connor locked eyes with her as he moved the contract closer to her, the weight of that move heavy between them. “No, you don’t. This marriage will last one year. You’ll be my wife. No questions, no way out.” She glanced at the pen next to the contract, its shiny surface gleaming in the dim light. Picking it up felt like lifting a massive weight, and not picking it up felt like her life would slowly drift away. If she didn’t sign, Connor would ruin her. But if she did… well, the consequences of that choice would haunt her in ways she couldn’t even begin to imagine. The steady ticking of a clock in the background was like a countdown, each second dragging on forever. Her fingers hovered over the pen, trembling slightly, as the tension in the room grew almost suffocating. The choice sat there like a mountain in front of her, with an uncertain future looming behind her. It was a marriage built on deception. A contract shrouded in fear and secrets. But it was her only way out. Taking a deep breath, Olivia’s hand clenched around the pen as she signed her name, the sound of ink scratching across paper louder than she expected. Connor didn’t smile or congratulate her. His expression remained icy like he just closed a business deal. “Good,” he said flatly. “The contract is binding. You belong to me now. For better or worse.” Olivia clenched her fist tightly as it dawned on her that she had just handed her life over to a man she knew nothing of, tangled in a web of lies she couldn’t get out of. Connor leaned back, studying her with a keen gaze. There was something else in his eyes, too, as if he was waiting for her to c***k, eager to see her break. She could feel the chill creep down her spine. She had signed her life away. But deep down, she knew this wasn’t the end. It was just the start.
