Chapter 1

Lucas POV With the coffee in hand, I proceed from my parked car to the clinic. It's a typical day like all the others. " Good morning, Lucas," my assistant Kelly greeted me. She informs me about the incidents, and after I drink some coffee, I take action. All animals that arrived from the one-day emergency clinic or brought the first thing are examined first. If a pet needs surgery or hospitalization, they are accepted. The emergency room doctor usually invites you to discuss the cases reported by the emergency clinic. The mornings follow - all patients currently in the clinic are examined, and the owners call with progress reports. At the same time, the animals accepted for surgery are concerned, and the process is discussed with the owner. After their acceptance, the technician or doctor, in some cases, draws blood samples for a pre-anesthetic blood lab. Then it's time for an appointment or surgery. Personally, I like to have surgery as early as possible during the day. This allows the patient to recover throughout the day while there is enough staff to monitor progress. Appointments include new puppy or kitten visits, vaccinations, sick animals, bug checking, sewing moves, and the like. Sometimes there is an appointment for euthanasia. Which is the worst thing I've ever been through. It's never easy for me. Fortunately, there are several doctors in the clinic, so there is time for each doctor to check his appointments, and so he can take a break to eat. Also, lunch is the time to end the surgery, return phone calls, check the animals recovering from anesthesia, and check the hospital patients. It's lunchtime, and I'm sitting in the office with my colleague and friend Will. "So you're coming home tonight? We'll all get together again." "I don't know what time I'll end up here." "When will you finally stop running for everything? The clinic is yours, take a break." "I like what I do, and I don't find it a chore. I want to know that everything works well and the animals have the care they need." He looks at me with understanding. "I know, and you're doing an excellent job, but you have to live a little bit. Come tonight, Alice will call her new colleague. She's told me the best." I sigh "When will you stop arranging dates for me?" "When will you stop sabotaging them? I know you love your job, you want to offer it, but at some point, you have to find a person to share it with." "You know that my free time is short and in my previous relationships, I had a lot of complaints. It was never easy" he looks at me strangely "You know, buddy, the clinic is yours you and have a lot of people working here. I'm sure you can arrange your hours so you can get to know and stay with someone," he bends over and continues. "Maybe because you've burned in the past, you think they're all the same. Dude, I'm letting you know it's not all the same. You have to give it a try." He gets up and walks to the door. "Well, boss, I'm going to get my latest appointments. If you need anything, I'll be at my office." "Ok, see ya" I sat down and thought about what Will had told me. I know that not all women are the same, but why does it happen that those on my street ask for something more? Nobody liked my profession, they all wanted to change me and follow my father's profession. Because he had a lot of income, no one thought that if I wanted to do that, I would not become a vet. Having the trust of my grandfather, I decided to study veterinary medicine since I love animals. When I opened my clinic, which deals with pets and strays who are abandoned and injured. And then, I make sure trusted families adopt them. That's what I like to do. This fills me because no one understands. Neither parents liked it at first. 'I had a job ready to deal with something that will not bring profit?.' They asked me why I wanted to do this," This makes me happy," I replied. In the first years, we had no contact. Now their only problem is that I reached the age of 35 and I have not given them grandchildren.
