Perhaps I’m a coward for sneaking out while Shay is dozing peacefully, adorably snoring with light puffs of air, but I know that I don’t have the strength to tell him goodbye. It’s tempting to stay here in his arms for a while longer, but that will only make it harder to leave. I have a real life to get back to, with job commitments and a mother who needs me nearby.
By the time I get to the hotel lobby with my luggage in tow, everyone else is there milling about, except for Ruthie and Andrew. The two of them are extending their stay on the island to enjoy some alone time for their honeymoon.
We all ride together in a shuttle to the airport, with the exception of Grandmother Rose, who has arranged for private limo transportation for herself.
