19 I wake up feeling warm and safe. Strong arms are locked around me, protecting me. A delightful masculine and piney smell greets my nose. I take a deep breath, savoring the moment, wanting it to last as long as possible. When my eyes flutter open, vague memories start to return. My head is resting on Shay’s chest as it rises and falls with his even breathing. Broad beams of sunlight are streaking in through the curtains. Bolting upright, I ask, “What time is it?” I’m stunned when Shay answers, “10:45 or so.” I have never slept this late in my entire life… not even when I had the flu. My shock over the late hour is nothing compared to the bass drum pounding in my head.
