Chapter 39

Nathan ran behind Jayden who was sprinting up the stairs at the entrance of the mansion. He could hear the doors loudly hitting the walls behind them as they didn’t bother to slow down their speed until they ended up in front of Hayden’s office. “Hayden!” Jayden barged in. “What’s the matter?” Hayden got up from his seat, alarmed by the panting duo, who had just crashed into his office room. “You… need to help us,” Jayden started, and again shook his head. “We need your help!” Hayden looked between the troubled faces, and decided to let them explain the situation. He walked around the table and gently pushed Jayden and Nathan to the sofa. “Calm down and tell me what happened,” he said as he himself took a seat in front of them. “Avelyn has been kidn*pped. We can’t find where she is. We need your help to rescue her.” Nathan decided to take the lead. Hayden, as surprised as he was, still proceeded to hand the others two glasses of water to gulp down. “Why would someone kidnap her?” “I don’t know for sure. But we believe that it is because of some rivalry between Avelyn and them.” Hayden spread his arms in question. “Why would some random girl like Avelyn have rivals? How? As far as I know, she doesn’t have any issues with other businessmen.” “Because…” Nathan stopped and looked down. Now it was the time for Jayden to do the explaining as Nathan nudged him by the elbow. “Because she was a mafia.” Hayden allowed a slight chuckle to escape his lips. “A mafia?” “Yes. She is The Ghost. Well, was.” Jayden shrugged, and fidgeted with his fingers. Hayden’s smiling face turned dark, and his eyebrows creased. He crossed his arms and leaned back on the sofa. When he spoke, both Jayden and Nathan could easily detect the anger that Hayden kept under the surface. “I was informed that The Ghost was dead.” He calmly spoke, but it managed to run shivers down the spines of the other two. “I’m sorry,” Jayden managed to let out a quiet whisper. Hayden scoffed. “Sorry? Do you know the loss I faced because of her?” “I’m sorry… She didn’t bother you after she got to know who you were…” Jayden said in a small voice. “Does that make any difference?” “But she is my friend! I can’t kill her!” “Well, I am your BROTHER! You still could have chosen to say the truth.” Silence. Silence was all that took place for the whole time that Hayden continued to glare at Jayden. “Then Nathan also helped her at that time?” He asked, turning to Nathan, who was continuously shifting in his seat. “HUH?” Nathan and Jayden flinched when Hayden suddenly shouted. “Umm….yes?” Nathan and Jayden looked up when Hayden abruptly stood up. They sucked in a quick breath when they saw Hayden’s gun pointing at Nathan’s forehead. Jayden gulped. “H-Hayden, don’t.” He started to slowly get up. “STAY WHERE YOU ARE JAYDEN!” And Jayden just froze in his place. “Now tell me Nathan,” Hayden leaned forward. “….Why should I spare your life after knowing that you were my enemy?” Nathan blinked. “…Be- Because I’m not anymore.” Hayden smirked. “Really?” “I- I never was. Avelyn and I … didn’t know that we were attacking you.” Nathan’s chest heaved up and down. “Ever since we got to know that you’re Jayden’s brother, we have not gone against you.” BAAM!!! Jayden slowly opened his eyes to see Hayden’s men running into the room. “Give me the footage. I’ll do whatever I can to take Avelyn back.” Hayden straightened up, and put his gun back in his pocket. With slightly trembling hands, Nathan gave Hayden a pen drive. “Don’t think that this is over. We’ll talk when the storm has passed.” Hayden said, giving the pen drive to his guards. “Now come, we have got work to do.” Before following Hayden, Jayden and Nathan turned their heads and looked at the wall, where there was a new hole in it. “You okay?” Jayden whispered. “Yes,” Jayden nodded, and they both followed the guards out of the office.
