"Sir! She's awake!" The nurse informed Hayden.
He nodded. "Call Nathan and Jayden to her room."
"Avelyn! We're glad that you're alright now" Nathan squeezed Avelyn's hand. Avelyn smiled at everyone in the room. "Thank you all for saving me" she spoke in a hoarse voice.
Jayden shook his head. "All thanks to Hayden. If he hadn't helped, we would have taken weeks to find you."
Avelyn looked at Hayden who was standing a bit away from them. "Thank you."
Hayden replied with a simple nod. "How do you feel now?"
"Better I guess. The nurse told me that excessive blood flow caused me to faint, but not to worry now."
"Does your leg still hurt?" Jayden asked.
Aveyn shook her head. "Not much. A bit itchy..." she shrugged.
Nathan touched her forehead with his forefinger. "Did he beat you up?"
"Hmm... Where is he now?"
"We killed him." Hayden said with a nonchalant voice.
Avelyn looked down like sge was disappointed. "You should have kept him alive for me to pay him back." That made everyone in the room chuckle.
Nathan shook his head. "You never change!"
"How did you all find me?" Avelyn asked curiously.
Nathan sighed. "We couldn't get much information from the CCTV footage. So Jayden decided to ask Hayden for help."
Avelyn turned her questioning gaze towards Hayden. After a moment of hesitation, Hayden stepped forward. "Well, I had a few spies in Kaden's gang, so...." he shrugged.
"Hmm...I understand."
"Well, we should let her rest now. She's still weak," Jayden looked at Nathan and Hayden.
"We'll come back later" Hayden said, taking his leave. Before he stepped out after Jayden, he heard Nathan, who hadn't stood up from Avelyn's bed saying, " Avelyn I'm sorry that I couldn't reach our company on time when you were attacked."
Avelyn shook hef head lightly, slightly smiling at him. "It doesn't matter now Nathan. I'm okay now."
"But still-"
He got cut off by Avelyn's raised hand. "You don't have anything to apologize for. If anyone is to blame, it should be me for not paying attention to my surroundings."
Nathan smiled sadly. "Hmm...okay," he nodded several times. "You should sleep now."
Avelyn pulled up her blanket a little. "I will, in a moment."
"I'll go now"
Avelyn watched as Nathan went out, closing the door behind him. She took a deep breath, a contended smile on her lips. It was good to feel the soft mattress under her again when sleeping. She adjusted herself and started to lay down, but stopped when a light knock was heard.
Avelyn straightened again, leaning on the headboard, when she saw Hayden entering.
"Sorry for disturbing. I forgot to give you this." He lifted the fruit basket for Avelyn to see.
"It's alright, I was just going to sleep."
Avelyn watched Hayden place the basket on the bedside table. She spoke when he turned to leave.
"Hayden!"
"Yes?" He turned around with a questioning glance.
"Why did you save me, even after you came to know that I was The Ghost?"
"Oh, that...." Avelyn watched keenly as he stepped closer to her.
He took a deep breath, then hesitated. He shook his head. Then he took drew another breath and seemed to had made up his mind. "Because Jayden asked me to."
Avelyn blinked, and tilted her head. "You could have refused. Why didn't you?"
"Didn't you want to escape that prison?"
Avelyn rolled her eyes. "Don't try to change the topic, Hayden. You know that I was your enemy, and you still chose to help me. I know that you had ordered your men to kill me. Why save me now?"
Hayden sighed. "I've already told you the truth. I have no other reason."
Avelyn watched Hayden in silence. Although Hayden said that it was because of Jayden, she wondered if there were any other motives behind his act. She sighed. Whatever Hayden wants in return, she would have to give him that since he saved her life.
"Lay down. I'll tuck you in." Hayden helped her with the injured leg to get into a comfortable position. He pulled the blanket up to her chest. "Rest well," he turned to leave.
"Thank you for saving me, Hayden." He heard Avelyn say. He slightly turned around, and nodded. He didn't dare to look at her in the eyes, and left with quick steps.
