Nathan made his way over to Threads that night, feeling slightly nervous considering how long it had been since he'd seen Claudia.
Would she be happy to see him, or would she, like Vera, despise him for coming back late?
In any case, the company Threads was a small fashion company founded by Claudia alongside her best friend, Jessica.
When he arrived, he found that the entire building was dark and only the lights in one of the officers were still on.
He guessed it was Claudia’s office, and so he quickly made his way to the office, only for two men in suits to suddenly walk out of the shadows.
“Who are you?... Why are you here at this time?” The men asked as they stopped him in his tracks.
Nathan frowned, taking the time to scrutinize the duo as though they seemed to be good fighters, they were not the building's security.
Deciding to take things in stride, he intoned. “I'm here to see someone.”
The men exchanged looks before one of them remarked, “Miss Claudia?”
“Yes.”
“In that case, I'm afraid you'll have to return. She's currently having a chat with Mr. Kingsley and no one is allowed to disturb them.”
On hearing that, Nathan froze, struggling to come to terms with the possibility that Claudia was not as upright as Sara claimed she was.
His expression darkened as he couldn't fathom why else she would be meeting a man so late at night.
To think he had felt proud of her for sticking with his mother and sister during the period he wasn't around.
Taking a deep breath, he took a step forward, only for the two men to block his path.
“Are you deaf, or are you just looking for a reason to end up in the hospital?”
Nathan looked at both of them and breathed out slowly. “Step out of my way.”
“You bastard!... You are just asking for a beating!”
They rushed Nathan, intent on teaching him a lesson for daring to misbehave.
Unfortunately for them, they had no idea who they were up against.
Within seconds, both men were on the ground howling in pain, while Nathan stepped over them and continued his walk into the office.
***
While Nathan dealt with the bodyguards, within the office, a beautiful woman was seated.
She had long blonde hair and an astounding figure.
It wouldn't be wrong to say she was an angel that had somehow found its way from heaven to the mortal realm.
She was Claudia, owner of Threads.
Her company had been kicked out of the Chamber of Commerce due to sabotage from other competitors who had accused her of things she'd never done, leading to her being stripped of her company.
Tonight, unfortunately, was her last night as the co-owner of Threads, a company she had built with focus, commitment, and sheer will.
She barely stopped herself from crying just as a young man walked into the office.
“Claudia dear, have you signed the documents?”
This man was Victor Kingsley, owner of KingCo, which was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
He was one of the many men that had always had eyes on Samantha, hoping to make her his mistress, but she always rejected him, causing him to resent her.
That was why he'd worked with some other allies to put Claudia in a difficult position, accusing her of crimes she never committed just so she would lose everything and become vulnerable enough for him to take advantage.
A dastardly human indeed.
“Here,” Claudia intoned as she got to her feet and handed over the documents. “You should be happy. By tomorrow, Threads will no longer be in my name.”
Victor let out a tired sigh as he moved to sit across from Claudia. “Why do you have to be so stubborn, Claudia dear?... You know that all this could be settled if only you just agree to become my mistress. I mean, why are you denying me such a simple request?”
“We have had this conversation several times, Victor.”
“Indeed, we have.”
“And my stance hasn't changed. Even if I wasn't married, I would never be with a man like you. So stop wasting your time and take these documents away.”
Saying that, she tossed the documents and packed up her things to leave.
She'd had enough and wasn't about to spend another moment with a man like Victor.
Victor naturally wasn't pleased as he remarked. “Your husband is probably dead and after tonight, you won't have anything. Do you think that I wouldn't dare to make your life miserable if you continued to deny me what I want?”
Claudia didn't even bother to respond, causing him to stand up and move to intercept her, grabbing her wrist in the process.
“Let go of me!” Claudia yelled out as she glared at him.
Victor smirked. “And if I don't?... What are you going to do?... Look here, I have connections everywhere in this city and I can make your life very miserable. You won't even be able to afford a bottle of water by the time I'm done with you, so you'd best think twice before forcing my hand.”
Claudia didn't even act like she was scared as she tried to push him away, only for an authoritative voice to speak up.
“Didn't your mother teach you to respect women?”
The next moment, the door was kicked open, and a furious Nathan walked in, causing Victor's heart to palpitate as he instinctively let go of Claudia's wrist.
“Who are you and why did my subordinates let you in?”
Ignoring the i***t, Nathan walked up to Claudia, who was staring at him in confusion because, though he looked familiar, she couldn't quite place where she knew him from.
“Do you remember me?” Nathan inquired as he came within arm's length before reaching out to touch her cheek.
Taken back by the gesture, Claudia was supposed to react, but for some reason, she felt safe, causing her eyes to widen as she finally recognized the man standing before her.
