Teaching a lesson

1085 Words
Seconds seemed to stretch into eternity for Claudia as she stared at Nathan only to slowly mutter, “Nathan.” “Yeah, it's me,” Nathan remarked with a melancholic smile. “I'm back.” Claudia was stunned as she stared disbelievingly at Nathan, her eyes tearing up as she covered her mouth. To think that the man she'd been waiting for so long for had returned to her. Nathan was about to say more, only to receive a slap on the cheek, his second slap since he returned home. “Aren't you ashamed to be back after so many years?” Claudia asked through her tears. Nathan felt a flurry of emotions at that moment, unsure of how to respond to her question. He felt guilty about a lot of things, but at this moment, he felt most guilty for doubting Claudia's intentions. Bowing his head in shame, he intoned, “I'm sorry, Claudia, please forgive me.” Claudia took a deep breath as she stared at Nathan, her mind a complete mess as she struggled to accept that the man standing before her was indeed Nathan. “You think apologizing is enough?... You abandoned all of us for so many years!... Do you know what society calls a man that abandons his family?... Trash!... You are worse than trash, and I'll never forgive you for abandoning us.” Nathan didn't dare raise his head to look at her, aware that doing so would only cause her more pain. Only after Claudia had calmed down a bit did he speak up. “You should go home while I handle things here.” Claudia gave no response, as she turned and left, leaving Nathan alone with Victor. Meanwhile, Victor had watched the entire drama and so, had an idea of Nathan's identity. “So you are the deadbeat husband that b***h had been waiting for all these years. If not for you, I'd have had her in the bag by now.” “You want to sleep with my wife?” Nathan questioned as he turned to face Victor. Victor smirked as he remarked. “Your wife should be happy that I'm even interested in her, considering the type of women begging me to be with them.” “So why don't you focus on them?... Why are you after my wife?” “You don't have the right to question me, Nathan,” Victor intoned. “It's best you watch yourself and perhaps, convince your wife to accept my offer. I am more than capable of making her regret rejecting me.” “Is that so?” “Oh yeah and best believe, I don't make empty promises.” Nathan nodded. “Alright then.” Before Victor could say anything else, Nathan took out his cell phone and made a quick phone call. Once he was done, he hung up and sat down to wait. Seeing Nathan so confident, Victor couldn't help but chuckle. “Now I see where Claudia gets her stubbornness from. Instead of begging for mercy, you dare to act arrogant. Fine then, it seems I'm going to have to teach you a lesson.” Saying that he made a phone call as well and then sat down to wait. It didn't take long before someone arrived, but unfortunately, it wasn't Victor's backup and was, instead, Nathan's own. Victor froze as he watched the chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce walk in along with General Sloan. Accompanying the duo was a squadron of the Dragon Legion, causing Victor to realize that something was very wrong. “On your knees!” General Sloan ordered, with Victor doing as instructed without hesitation. Victor didn't even have the guts to ask what he did wrong as he watched General Sloan approach Nathan along with the chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce and salute him. “Greetings to the War God.” “War God?” Victor's eyes widened as he didn't want to believe what he'd just heard. The man he was mocking not too long ago was the War God, the same man who had conquered the southern border. He wanted to believe that this was all a cruel joke, but there was no way the Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce would salute if it was, considering he was one of the most powerful people in the city and was arrogant to a fault. “At ease,” Nathan replied, with both men standing beside him doing as instructed. “What are your orders?” General Sloan inquired. Nathan pursed his lips as he stared intently at Victor, causing the latter to tremble. “Please spare me. If I had known you were the War God, I'd never have dared to misbehave.” “So if I wasn't the War God, you'd have misbehaved?” “That…” Victor paused, unsure of how to respond. Nathan sighed as he got to his feet. “Erase him.” “As you wish,” General Sloan replied. Victor trembled as he had an idea of what it meant to be erased. It wasn't just about being killed; everything related to him would be wiped from existence, and it would be like he never existed in the first place. Wasn't that worse than dying?... He wouldn't even have a legacy! “No, please spare me; I'm sorry; forgive me!” As he pleaded, Victor smashed his head on the ground so hard that he began to bleed, his voice filled with regret. General Sloan gestured to the squadron behind, and they immediately moved to apprehend Victor. Meanwhile, Nathan addressed the chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce. “You know what to do, don't you?” “Yes sir. Threads will be reinstated in the Chamber and returned to Miss Claudia as soon as possible.” Satisfied with his response, Nathan walked out without saying another word, leaving Victor to his sorry fate. *** Meanwhile, Claudia returned home to find Sara waiting for her. “You're finally home, dear. I was starting to get worried. Go and freshen up. I'll dish out your dinner in the meantime.” “I'm not hungry,” Claudia replied. “So I won't be eating.” As it was, so many things were happening that she didn't have the appetite to eat or the strength to do anything. Right now, she just wanted to bathe and sleep. Maybe tomorrow, she'll wake up to find out that everything was a dream.
