LIORA NARRANTING
I had a very complicated life. My parents were always very humble, and I had to start helping at home very early on, even though I had my sister; she also helped whenever she could find something, or a brief job. My mother always said that this wasn't right, it wasn't the life she had dreamed for us, but unfortunately, it was all she could offer us. We never blamed our mother, but my father didn't wait long; he chose to leave us. He chose to ask for a divorce because he couldn't bear to have a poor and humble life like the one we were living. Although today he has a better life, we never went after him, never sought trouble with him, or asked him for anything. We preferred to always fight for our daily bread because that way, we were more dignified than the way he chose to live. He has a wife now; she's a bit younger than him, but he lives well. Her family has some means, and they always support them, but that's life! I've never been ashamed of who I am and who I've become, and who I become every passing day. I have an incredible friendship with my sister, and that's something I never thought we'd achieve.
"Sister?" I call out to my sister, she looks at me with a smile. "Just got here?" I ask, and she smiles.
"Yes, sister, I just arrived," she says smiling. "I found something to work on," she informs.
"That's great, sister," I say, approaching her. As I get closer, I sit beside her.
"And what did you do today?" she asks, looking at me.
"I spent the whole day tidying up the house, stopped just a while ago, and now it's time to go to college," I say, and she smiles.
"I wish I could cover all your expenses one day, my sister," she says, making me smile kindly.
"Don't think about that; we do what we can, and one day, God will make everything happen as it should," I say smiling. "Tomorrow, I also need to look for a job," I tell her.
"Alright, my love," she says. "But tell me, how have the exams been going?" she asks me, and I smile at her.
"They've been going smoothly, sister; things have been progressing as God wants," I say smiling. "Just two more years, and I'm done," I conclude.
"That's good, at least you didn't give up like I did," she says.
"But you're back now, that's what matters, and now it's time to make up for lost time," I say smiling. She touches my face; I hold her hand and gently squeeze it. "Have faith that soon you'll also be graduated and able to practice what you've fought so hard for," I say with a slight smile on my lips.
"Oh, my sister, thank you for your support; I'm so happy that you always give me your support," she says, then she envelops me in her arms, and we hug.
"Daughters?" our mother calls out, entering the room where we were.
"Is something wrong, Mom?" she asks, seeing us hugging.
"No, Mom, we just hugged," she says, stepping away from me.
"It's time for college, miss," she says, referring to me.
"I'll go take my shower and head to college, Mommy," I say smiling; she smiles.
"I'm glad that today you fight for your studies, something I could never fight for," she says, lowering her head. I stand up and go to her, embracing her.
"Don't think like that, Mom; it's never too late for a fresh start, and I'm sure you still have time to go back to studying," I inform her, and she backs away slightly, placing her hands on my face. I look into her eyes.
"One day, perhaps, my love, but for now, I need to focus here, on you two," she says.
"Mom, we're already adults; don't just confine yourself because of us; you also need to live," I tell her; my sister looks at me.
"Mom, Liora is right," Livana says. "You also need to live and not just think about us," she says.
"You're both right, but when it's meant to happen, it will," she says, and then Livana and I hug her, and she hugs us back.
"I love you, Mom," I say, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Oh, my beautiful girl, I love you very much too," said my mother, her eyes filled with emotion.
I managed to chat a bit more with her and my sister until I could no longer avoid the time. That's when I rushed to the bathroom; I needed a quick shower and then catch the bus to go to college. As I headed to my room, I picked out my clothes and went to the bathroom. Upon entering, I undressed, placing my clothes in the hamper. Then, I stepped into the shower and quickly began my shower. After a few minutes, I finished, turned off the shower, grabbed the towel, wrapped it around my body, and headed to the sink. I brushed my teeth and after a few minutes, I was finally done. I then left the bathroom and went to my room. After closing the door, I went to my bed, removed the towel, dried myself off, and then went to my dresser. I grabbed my moisturizer, applied some to my hands, and began to spread it over my body. Once done, I returned to my bed, grabbed my lingerie, put it on, and then got dressed. After getting ready, I grabbed my belongings and left the room. As I passed through the living room, my sister and mother were sitting and watching TV. I said goodbye to both of them and headed for the door. After opening it, I stepped outside and walked to the bus stop. My thoughts were racing, and the desire to work to help my family only grew stronger. Although I always manage to find jobs for short periods, I really wanted to find one that I could fit into my schedule and work well for me. My mind was full until I reached the bus stop where I met Catarina, who was also heading to college. We greeted each other and boarded the bus.
"Friend, my love," she said, with a smile. "Let's go to our spot," she says, and together we head to our seats. "Friend, are you still in need of a job?" she asks.
"Yes, friend, I'm looking for one that I can fit into my schedule," I say, and she smiles excitedly.
"Friend, my cousin, who's always mingling with the rich society, mentioned a company called Greek Empire. It's to work with the big shot owner," she says. I was surprised by the information.
"Oh, friend, do you think I could get in if I tried?" I ask. The bus was en route to the college, and I was interested in this opportunity.
"Friend, you just need to go there and try; I believe in you," she says, excitedly. "You have the ability, friend," she says, smiling.
"But what about you? Why don't you try?" I ask.
"I'm working at a café, and it's not as demanding as being a secretary," she says, and I laugh. "Since you've worked in something quite similar, I thought I'd tell you," she concludes.
"Oh, friend, I'm getting nervous," I say, and she smiles. "Give me the address, and tomorrow I'll see if I can get something," I say excitedly. At least I'll try to get something, even though they're a well-known company, it doesn't hurt to try.
I continued chatting with Catarina until we reached the college. When the bus stopped at the stop, we all got off and headed inside. Catarina was giving me a lot of support to go to this company, but I still had reservations. There would be so many people vying for this position, people much more experienced in the field. It wasn't a joke. When we arrived at our classroom, everyone went to their seats. I'm eager to finish my administration degree. I was so absorbed in my thoughts that when the class started, the teacher caught my attention, and that's when I focused on the lectures. But my mind kept drifting to this potential job opportunity. I continued attending all the classes until they finally ended. I gathered my things, left the classroom with Catarina, and we headed to the bus stop. The bus was already there, so we got on, and it followed its daily route. We chatted until we reached our stop, then we got off the bus and walked and talked until we parted ways, each going to our own homes. When I got home, I opened the door and entered. As usual, my mother and brother were already asleep, so I entered quietly, locked the door, and went to my room. Once inside, I locked the door, put away my things, and immediately received a message from Catarina giving me the address of the company, which made me happy. I then took off my clothes and put on a nightgown. I went to my bed, knelt down by the foot of my bed, and began to pray. I thanked God for everything and, of course, asked for guidance and wisdom for the upcoming job interview. After some time, I finished my prayer, climbed into bed, turned off the bedside lamp, and let sleep take over.
