I walked to the dining and saw Aki and Mom sitting by the table already. I cleared my throat as I approached them. I just realized that when I was away, this is one of the things that I missed back home. You know, the times when we sat altogether for dinner; we always do that before especially when dad was still around.
“Good morning Mom,” I said.
“Good morning Ke, come on let’s eat.” Mom said as I sat down beside her and across Aki. “I heard from your brother that your flight is later today. Is that right?”
“Yeah, it is,” I said as I put some rice on my plate.
“And when will you be back?” She said. “It would be lonely here without you.”
I held her hand and looked at her in the eyes. “It will only be for a couple of days, Mom. I’ll be back before you know it.” I said.
