Chapter 2: The Speech

“Good evening, Ladies and gentlemen, I am deeply honored that you are able to join us tonight. This night is all about family, friends and success. I am very grateful that all through my life, I was given unmeasurable support by my family in whatever I want to achieve. They spoiled me with everything in life. Now that I am moving to a new chapter of my life, I would like to be able to chase my dream far from home to test the limits of what I can do. I told my parents that I wanted to study abroad, they agreed. So, we’re here, to celebrate new chapters and new beginnings! Enjoy the rest of the evening, everyone.” I gave the microphone back to the host and went down the stage. Dad, on the other hand, went upstage and offered a toast. “To my lovely daughter, Kerra, best wishes on your journey!” He said. “Cheers!” I was given a wine glass with a little wine. I held my glass high and joined them. “Cheers!” The crowd said. Everyone drank on their wine glass. I walked around to greet some friends and family on their tables. “Hey, you look stunning tonight!” Reid, my classmate and close friend said. “Yeah, you look like a goddess, Ker, I so love your red dress!” Fena, also one of my closest friends, said. “Oh, thank you guys, I’m glad you could make it.” I said heartily. I missed them. I haven’t seen them for quite a while now. “Of course, we could! What kind of friends are we if we won’t be here at your send-off party, right?” Fena said. “If by any chance you need anything, you know you can call me right? Don’t worry about the different time zones, just call me when something happens.” Reid said. That’s what I love about him; he is super caring. “Of course, but don’t worry I can take care of myself.” I said. “Oh my God! Cred’s here! And he’s coming our way!” Fena said with panic in her voice. “Why do you get so jelly for a guy like that? I am charming and more handsome than he is, Fe.” Reid said. Cred is our high school campus’ ultimate crush and the captain ball of the basketball varsity team. Everyone seems to have a crush on him and that includes me. “Shut up, Re, he’s way hotter than you are! Plus, we know you’re a gay.” Fena said. “Whatever. I might be gay but he isn’t my type and he will never be!” Reid said. “Guys, stop talking, he’s here.” I said. Cred stopped right in front of us and stared at me. He smiled. “Good evening, Ker, you look amazing tonight “ What he said made my heart skipped a beat. This is the first time that we’ve come this close. He never talked to me before. “T-Thanks.” I said. He asked me to dance with him which I totally agreed. He guided me to the dance floor and held my hand. We started dancing and dancing while he tries to start a conversation with me. I never knew this night could get more special than it already is.
