The One That Got Away: Chapter 1
You're currently running towards your beloved school as you hurriedly walked through the halls who are already empty. You, unfortunately, worked up late. Luckily, it's not the first day of school.
You knocked on the door with a label class 4-1. Yep, that's your classroom. Your 10 minutes late and is sure gonna get called out for tardiness. The door opened revealing your teacher, smiling.
"Lee Yoonji, you still came. I thought you will be absent today. Come on in!" Your teacher welcomed you cheering with the usual set-up of class. You walked inside, expressed your greetings, bowed, and took a sit.
It has been almost a year ad graduation is nearing so you're not shy or embarrassed of your classmates because they're all your friends. Well, some of them are really close friends. This class is known for having smart and intelligent students but a class wouldn't be a class without personalities, right?
You signed and smiled. Graduation is nearing just a few months and your dear friends will be separated from you again. Including him. He is Kim Taehyung. Your friend. He's handsome, tall, smart, kind, you name it. He is a perfect example of an ideal boyfriend.
As it already sounds, you're in love with this man. Your friend to be exact. It's inevitable. He came. You don't even expect these feelings to come either, they just came naturally. You were just speaking being some time with him and it was there. You didn't notice it at first but your friends telling you or more like one serving it, you realized it was there.
They will notice that you will blush every time he will compliment you for your fashion or for acing a test. You would be able to do eye contact with him for a long period of time. You would freeze whenever he's close and your cheeks will spread a blush. Your friends can see it. How come he doesn't? Your sure that his eyes don't have any problem.
Nope. His eyes are not to blame. It's his heart and mind. Ha has someone he's looking at while you're looking at him. The worst part is that the feeling is mutual. Not for you but for them. With her. Does it hurt? Of course, it does. How will it not be? You were there for him longer than she does, you were his friend longer than she does, you liked him longer than she does, yet he still chose her.
Life is unfair, really. If there's something that can overpower that, it's love. Life is unfair indeed but love is much more unfair. When she transferred here and got admitted to your class, you felt as if there's something towards her that you couldn't point out. it was as If your feeling uneasy wheNever she's around.
This feeling is still present but now you know why. You felt competition the moment you saw her in your class. She's the same as you. A smart, happy-go-lucky girl. She's fashionable, friendly, loves eating and a joker. Those are your personalities too. You real You realize that but didn't pay much attention to it.
But one day, she started befriending your friends, she approached them with the same cheerful attitude that your friends love you for. She would sit with your friends during lunchtimes, join in group projects, and sometimes you'd get pretty offended when they choose her over you, in some situations.
You would act as if it's fine. it wasn't a good idea. You let her take your place and now you're suffering the consequences. She took the guy you love the most and you can't do a single thing about it because she's the girlfriend and you're just a friend.
Well, it's not like whining about it with getting you anywhere. You looked at the board filled with all the notes you just copied. You're a good note-taker which is the reason why you have good grades. You're also a good listener. You can talk to me and hear no judgments. Another thing is that you're a good student when it comes to mathematics.
Enough with all of this trivial. You looked around the room. All of the students are very focused on the lesson while you're here not paying attention at all. You may not be looking at the board but your ears are still open. It's not like you close it if you want to. A familiar back was facing you.
Kim Taehyung. He was a few seats away from you while she is just beside him. Well, she was able to seat beside him because she asked so. She has the courage while you don't. She is seated in the front which is the opposite of you whose at the back. You like it that way. It's your choice.
If you're asking who is this she that I'm talking about. Her name is Shin Yuna. A short-haired girl which annoyed you so much. You copied the given assignment all about math, which you've done already. Answering this doesn't even need paper and a pen. It all comes in your head when you read it.
"Lee Yoonji, kindly please answer the problem on the board."
"Ne."

The last subject for the morning ended without a hassle and before you know it, it's already lunchtime which means you need to enjoy her presence again for one whole hour. Now that's a hassle. You want to be true to yourself and to your friends but you can't bring yourself to say your true feelings fearing they might not understand or worse, leave you.
You know what yourself that that's not true but you just can't help it. She is bad news to you. You're now cleaning your desk when one of your friends, Sakura, a Japanese girl who is the daughter of a famous senator in Japan, named after the famous flower in East Asia, cherry blossoms.
"Yo. Are you going with us? Everyone else is waiting for you in the cafeteria."She said as she peak at the door and continues to step towards you.
"For me?" You scoffed in disbelief but not sarcastically. She's a good friend of yours but she's the only one who knows how you feel about her. All of your friends know that you like Taehyung but they didn't make a huge deal about it because he is in love with Yuna. They only know about your discomfort around the couple but only Sakura knows the truth.
The truth that it's not discomforting that you're feeling but anger, bitterness, and jealousy. She is the one who knows and tolerates your sulking behavior. You stood up with your wallet and hug her which she gladly does the same.
"Arigato, but not today." You sadly said while smiling. It's you're nature. Smile even if that's not what you actually feel. It's all for the sake of your concerned friends. It's to tell them that you're okay but deep inside your actually not. She withdrew from the hug and looked at you with a sad smile.
"Wagata... (Understood)."
