Chapter 2 Offered A Job By My Ex

FIVE YEARS LATER

In Mountain View Airport, a beautiful woman with a high ponytail, fair skin and a perfect figure got people looking in her direction. Closely beside her was a little girl who resembled her.

"Mommy, is this where you grew up?" Four-year-old Mia looked around as she asked.

"Yes baby," Jessica replied, forcing a smile.

"So, is Daddy here too?" Mia asked and this made Jessica's heart miss a mighty beat. He was not expecting this question, not now when things are so complicated.

The truth is that she did not know what to answer.Five years ago, she decided to keep the child and now she is all grown to the extent of asking questions about the dad.

" How about we skip that talk." Jessica said hoping that this was the last time Mia asks about her father.

"Jessica, Mia!" A familiar voice got their attention, just what Jessica needed to distract herself from this conversation that triggered so many emotions.

"Aunt Lucy!" Mia was the first to react. When Jessica looked, Mia was wrapped around her arms.

Lucy was Jessica's best friend. They met and stayed for years abroad since Jessica left home and their friendship had grown so much over the years. Jessica managed to study Architecture while abroad and she is going to be a big thing in the construction industry here in Mountain view. Her hardwork and dedication in the projects that she does is unmatched.

"I have arranged the place where you live, and I have also voted for your resume. You should pay attention to your email when the time comes." Lucy told her.

"Thank you so much Lucy. You have really been a true friend," Jessica said as she tried to hold back the tears of joy. It was great to be back and all this is thanks to her. Not only was she picking them from the airport but she has also volunteered a place for them to live.

As they drove to their new home, Mia fell asleep and Lucy felt that it was time to ask her friend important questions.

"How do you feel about coming back home? Are you ready to face your past?" She asked.

" For the sake of Mia, I am willing to face anything." Jessica said.

"On that note, I have news for you, next Friday, your father and step mother will have a banquet, which seems to be quite grand. All the prominent people in Mountain view have been invited." Jessica dropped the bombshell.

"Do you have an invitation?" Jessica asked.

"Of course I do," Lucy said before taking the invitation card from her Gucci handbag and handed it to Jessica.

By virtue of being the second lady of the King family in Mountain View, Lucy had to be invited to the event. For some reason, Jessica found herself smiling while reading the invite.

"What are you going to do?" Lucy was keen to ask. From her weird smile Lucy could feel that Jessica was up to something.

"By the way, did I mention this? When I left home, I was in a hurry to leave. I forgot to take the contract my mother left me." Jessica explained.

Smith Group was formerly the family business of Jessica's mother. As an only daughter, Jessica owned 10% of Smith Group from birth. Although this proportion is not enough to control Smith Group, it will still hurt Smith Group when she takes her share.

Now that she's back, she won't let Nancy, an outsider, take over Smith Group.

"By the way, Mia's father, how do you find it? After so many years, you don't really want to look for a needle in a haystack, do you? But come to think of it, he must be handsome, just look at Mia's beautiful face," Lucy told her.

" Honestly, that is why I am here. Forget about my shares in the company, I am here to find Mia's father!" Jessica told Lucy in a firm voice.

" Even though I know nothing yet, or where to find him, I must find him," She added.

In the CEO''s office of the Brown building company, a young famous lady dressed up in a fancy outfit made her way in. Her long wavy hair in wine red made it very easy for someone to recognise who she was.

Ada was not bothered,she reached for the door but she was shocked when she was stopped from going in.

" I am sorry but you cannot go in," The secretary said courteously.

" You should be out of your mind! Who are you to dictate things, I am Robert's fiance for goodness sake and you need to let me in!" Ada demanded. She was so pissed to even listen to one more word from the secretary hence she forced her way in, ignoring the secretary who couldn't stop telling her not to go in.

Ada walked into Eric and Robert but seeing the look on her face made Eric take his leave.

" What is wrong with you? Why are you giving instructions to have me out of your office yet we are supposed to get married, huh?" Ada asked. She could feel bitter bile tasting at the back of her throat.

" Something has changed," Robert said without necessarily looking up to see Ada's face.

His tone was cold and Ada figured that there was something wrong and she needed to make him feel better.

"I know exactly what to cheer you up," Ada said after going behind his desk to massage him gently on the shoulders as she talked. Robert looked so disinterested in her actions but she chose not to focus on that.

"Next Friday, my sister's family will hold a birthday party for her little nephew. My sister specially asked me to invite you."She said.

"I have no time, you know that, don't you. Also, don't touch me!" Robert demanded.

Truth is, he tolerated Ada's presence in front of him only because of that night five years ago.She saved him with her innocence.

" Why are you doing this to me? Why are you rejecting me like this?" Ada asked as tears started falling from her eyes. She has always been that replacemen she replaced Jessica she has never really managed to make Robert fall in love with her the way that she wanted.

Ada quickly wiped her tears away when she recalled the brighter picture. Rocket is the only heir of the Brown Group of Companies. That aside, he is the most handsome man in Mountain View town. She was not going to give up on him, despite his cold treatment. They are engaged and she must make their relationship work.

That night, Jessica went through her email with a cup of coffee in her hand. She really hoped to find a job offer and before long, she did.

She had been called for an interview at The Brown Group of Companies, it was a construction company and she was so excited. She tried to find who the CEO was but little information had been shared.

Anyway, she was so excited to go for the interview .
