Chapter 3 A One Night Stand.

That Monday morning, Jessica dropped Mia to school and immediately rushed for the interview. She was dressed for success, black formal suit, a pair of black leather shoes and black rimmed glasses. She sat at the reception waiting to be called in.

Jessica was interviewed by the assistant director of Brown Group of Company, Mason, who took a look at her resume. For some reason, Mason didn't like Jessica. He felt intimidated by her. He was about to dismiss her when his office door was opened.

"Mason, Robert is here." The assistant said.

"Why is he here?" Mason frowned and muttered in a low voice, but stood up and went out to meet him. Jessica had already seen that she was not his cup of tea hence she decided to leave.

As soon as she went out of the conference room door, into Robert who had just entered the door.

"Why are you here?" Mason asked Robert as he walked to him smiling .

Hearing this, Jessica looked up subconsciously and he saw him. He was wearing a grey handmade suit and a white shirt. He was so handsome with a perfectly sculpted chest. He looked so familiar and Jessica was convinced that she had seen her somewhere. It must be a Vogue cover because he is so sexy.

"What is that in your hand?" Robert didn't reply directly to Mason, but his eyes fell straight on the resume he had been holding.

"Oh, I was just interviewing some girl, but she didn't fit in." Mason said it normally and handed him the resume.

Robert didn't take it because he noticed Jessica who had graced their presence for a couple of minutes.

He looked her straight in the eye and Jessica shuddered making her blink as she tried to maintain eye contact with him.

"Is she the one? Please hire her, we don't have the luxury of time to find another person," Robert said dismissively.

"No!" Mason shouted defensively, replacing Jessica's excitement with sadness. Robert noticed this hence he pulled him to his office. A few seconds later, the HR came with some good news for Jessica.

"Jessica, you passed the interview, please report to work tomorrow," She said with a wide smile gracing her face.

" Okay, thank you so much," Jessica said, arching her lips upwards. She was confused about the entire situation earlier but at least she has gotten the job.

"Lucy, can I drink this?"Jessica asked Looking at the colourful cocktails in front of her, later that night.

" Drink! We are here to celebrate that you got a job.!" Lucy reminded her.

"Honestly Robert, I don't like the woman you hired earlier. She is not my taste," Mason grumbled.

" Who cares, my fiancee is a famous beauty anchor." Robert said with a small smile.

" I need another drink," Vincent, one of Robert's friends, said as they enjoyed their time at the same club that Jessica was in.

The two men also looked in the direction and quickly locked Jessica's seat, but the light was dim and Jessica's face could not be seen clearly.

I think I have seen a girl that I like, I will go now," After seeing Jessica's silhouette, Mason shouted before staggering away.

"Are you really going to marry Ada?" Vincent took this time to ask Robert. He had noticed that Robert is not into Ada so much. Anyway, he could be wrong.

"She is just a woman." Robert mumbled.

For him, a woman is dispensable, either when dating or getting married. It was not a big of a deal.

Robert finished saying this when the events of that night, five years ago come to mind. He remembered that Smith was having a lively party, but there was a skinny figure sitting alone in the garden.A white dress, bright eyes full of sadness and confusion.

There was something about that girl that captured his attention, without thinking, he asked her out.It was his first time to be so attracted to someone and he really wanted her. He couldn't stop making love to her, this was the best night ever. .

For him though, since what he felt for her was rare, he decided to be a good man for her.But when he saw her again, the throb in his heart disappeared. He didn't like her, it was just a one time thing, a one night stand.

"Hello, can I join your table?" Mason comes up to Lucy with a smile.

Since Lucy was not in Mountain View for so long to know Mason, she was quick to ignore him. However, Mason did not take it so well.

" Do you know who I am to turn me down?" Mason asked. His smile had disappeared completely.

"Who is this person bothering you?" Jessica suddenly looked up and saw Mason. She could not recognise him since she was drunk.

"The woman from the interview, right?" Mason asked after seeing her.

" Are you stalking me?" Jessica asked as she glared at him.

"You are ugly, you know that right?" Mason said and Jessica could not handle it. She was not going to allow someone to disrespect her. She got off her seat and went ahead to grab her by the collar.

" How dare you!" Jessica asked through gritted teeth.

Seeing how the situation was escalating, Lucy hurried to pull Jessica from him but she was too late since Mason pushed her away and she ended up falling to the tiled floor. She inched in pain and agony. She couldn't believe what just happened. She was on the verge of tears when someone reached out to save her.

His muscular cologne eased to her nose as he helped her up.

She had shut her eyes tightly to try and take in the pain but by the time she opened her eyes, people were staring at her. This made her look at the person who saved her then she saw him, Robert from the company.

" Thank you for saving her, Robert, she is my friend," Lucy who was so shocked to see Robert said. Unlike Jessica, she knew who he was and how powerful he was. What was shocking is how close he was with Jessica, he never does that in public with any woman including his girlfriend.

For once since she helped her up, Robert takes a close look at Jessica, who appears inexplicably in his arms.There is no resentment in my heart, but there is an indescribable familiarity.He looked closely at Jessica's appearance. Her cute nose and pink lips that begged to be kissed, her perfect eyes…

Damn it!Has he been abstinent for too long?

The more he looked at her the more his heart started throbbing, the same way that he felt five years ago.

Robert narrowed his eyes and blamed what he was feeling on alcohol. He quickly dismissed her and pushed her towards her friend, Lucy.

When everyone thought he was going to be furious for her falling on him, Robert just patted Jessica where she was leaning, and then without saying anything, lifted his foot and left.

Seeing that Robert didn't say anything, Mason couldn't go on attacking, so he had to leave with Vincent.

Jessica woke up the next morning with a headache.

"Goodmorning mama," Mia said leaning in for a kiss.

" Goodmorning my love, where is your Aunt Lucy?" Jessica asked.

" Aunty Lucy went to work. You should also go to work after dropping me in school," Mia reminded her and she jumped on her feet. Damn, she was running late. Drinking last night was a big mistake.

Jessica took the shortest time possible to prepare for her first day at work.

" I am late to work. Your nanny will take you to school. Be a good girl my love, and wish me all the best, I love you," Jessica said before kissing her softly on the cheek.

" I love you too mama," Mia said.

Jessica was lucky to arrive at the office on time. After going through the formal entry formalities, she was randomly arranged in a corner, starting as a design assistant.

She could notice people talking about her and staring but she did not care. She focused on her work. Her boss gave her so many design manuscripts to go through and she had to do them to prove that she was indeed competent for her work. She was carried away working that by the time she was done, it was 8:00pm.

Panicking, she stuffed her things in her bag and rushed out to catch the bus.

Out of the company gate, Jessica walked to the bus stop, but just then, a red Porsche suddenly stopped in front of her.

Jessica was wondering when the door opened and a woman dressed in a famous brand stepped out of the car.Her pencil skirt outlined every curve of her body and her red high heels were quite intimidating.

Jessica looked up at this woman and then realised that the lady in red heels was Nancy, her step mother.fixed her eyes on this charming woman.

"So it's truly you, I thought that it was all a lie," Nancy said as she folded her arms in front of her.

Looking at Jessica's old business attire and old dress, Nancy was surprised, but she couldn't help secretly rejoicing in her heart.Thinking about it, she realised that Jessica's life outside these years was not good.

"Jessica, where have you been all these years? I was so worried!" Nancy recovered from the shock and asked with an affectionate face.

Jessica was still at a loss because she didn't expect to meet Nancy so soon. She thought she would only run into Nancy at the party.However, after seeing Nancy did not change her old acting skills, Jessica evoked a mocking smile.

"Wow, your acting skills are so commendable, if I could only have the money to tip you," Jessica finally started. She was so angry, her presence really pissed the hell out of her.

"I know you hate me now, but you should also think of your father. His heart is broken. He had been trying to find you for years but he could not find you. Anyway, now that you are back, today, come home with me. "Nancy said as she stepped forward to hold Jessica's hand but she could not allow her.

" Home? Are you considering that toxic place a home?" Jessica asked. Suddenly, she felt sick, her eyes became cold. Nancy had reminded her of her pain, the pain that she had struggled to move past.

" Leave! Leave me alone!" Jessica shouted and Nancy was frightened. She rushed to her car as she watched Jessica leave.

She was still thinking about what just happened when her phone started ringing.

She wanted to ignore it but she thought otherwise because her sister Ada was the one calling.

" Sister, where are you?" Ada asked.

" I am waiting for you," She added.

" I am on my way," Nancy chuckled before she got into her car. She decided not to think about what just happened yet. She drove silently to the bar where Ada was waiting.

Nancy was shocked to find Ada completely drunk in the short while that she was there.

" What the f**k Ada!" She shouted at her.

" Stop it, I am your sister, don't scold me," Ada begged.

" You have a high profile to maintain, why are you like this?" Nancy asked, she was so disappointed in her.

" I am not used to this life, you brought me here. I am used to the hard village life," Ada mumbled.

Nancy took a deep breath to try and calm herself down. This was harder than she thought. Nancy had done her best to be on top and also invited her sister to Mountain View five years ago for her to have a good life too but she is not getting it together. This is not good.

She will expose her secret. The secret that she had been hiding for the past five years. Since Ada somehow resembled Jessica, she managed to make her a replacement for Jessica once she ensured that she left. That is how she managed to put Robert and Ada together because all along, Robert thinks that Ada is the same woman who got his heart beating that night, five years ago when they made love.

Nancy however couldn't help but think of the hard part, she had arranged for Jessica to sleep with a loser but for some reason, she ended up sleeping with Robert. By the time Ada was going to Robert's room, he had already made love to Jessica.

" What's with that look?" Ada asked.

" Jessica is back. You need to be so careful!" Nancy said through gritted teeth.

Things were really getting complicated because if Smith knows she is back then it will completely affect her plan.If Smith knew she was back, it would not affect her plan.

"What! This cannot be happening. What am I supposed to do?" Ada asked, she was panicking.

" Do your part of the plan!" Nancy made it clear.

" What about you? Aren't you scared that now she is back? Ada asked.

" She is so bitter with her dad, at least I am sure she will not come back home," Nancy said. She wished that this is what will happen because if she dares to go home then her plans will be ruined completely.

Jessica got back home and took a long shower to try and calm her racing nerves. After that she went to check on her daughter who was fast asleep. She took this time to study her closely and noticed that eyebrows are full of heroic spirit, unlike her willow curved eyebrows. Maybe this is what will lead her to knowing her biological father.

Today had been a long day and the last thing that Jessica wanted to think about was her encounter with Nancy.
